I didn't know where else to post this, but since it is related to our parents I thought I'd pop it in here.
Have any of you ever wished you could rearrange how your parents' genes merged together in you? If so, why? In what way would you change yourself?
I'm quite happy with how my parents' genes mixed within me, but there are still certain things I would tweak if I could:
- My European mother is hairy whereas my East Asian father is practically hairless. I would love to have taken more after my father in this case! This is probably the number one thing I would want to change!
- East Asians tend to sweat less than Europeans and I can definitely see the difference between my parents. My father never sweats, whereas my mother sweats a lot. I would have also preferred to have taken after my East Asian father in this area.
- Something I find fairly typical with Eurasians is having no brow ridge (like East Asians), but having a European nose. If your European parent had a small nose, this is okay. However, in my case the combination of a medium-sized European nose and no brow ridge makes it look as if my nose is big. I would opt to have a nose of a smaller size like my East Asian father's.
- East Asian eyelashes tend to be straight and eyelashes and eyebrow hairs sometimes grow downwards. I have some parts in my eyebrows where the hairs grow down and my eyelashes are quite straight. I would like to have eyelashes that curl more like my European mother and also eyebrow hairs that follow the shape of the eyebrow instead of growing down.
- This one has absolutely nothing to do with race, but my mother has naturally straight teeth, whereas my father has very crooked teeth. If I had turned out more like my mother in that area it would have saved me a lot of pain and money!

Interesting thoughts there. xD Well, I tend to sweat a lot and that sucks. My mom always wonders why I sweat so much and now I know. My mom is like why do you need to use deodorant? Well mom, I don't want to be all wet and STINK! My father tends to get very oily and sweaty...my mom calls it his "old man smell"... . I am not very hairy, definitely not "Caucasian" hairy. But once again my mom always asks me why do I have more hair than her...well mom, I got that from you guys. I don't have a prominent brow ridge like "full" caucasians, but I do have one that is more than most Asians. Guess I got that from both parents too. My eyes look more caucasian than asian (very prominent and thick double eyelids that sink in.) My nose is pretty funny since it obviously sticks out more than the typical asian noses, but the shape is pretty asian to me...yet not...but still asian lol. Guess it's both too. I used to make fun of my dad when I was a little girl and say he has a big nose...cause you know..it sticks out. I have very long eyelashes that curl up. I guess that isn't a typical asian trait. My eyebrows are also very defined, chiseled, and has a nice growth pattern, not like the usual sparse, downward growing, and roundish eyebrows most asians have. Hmmm..guess that isn't very asian either. My teeth are very straight, except for that one tiger tooth I have on the right side. It happened on a little incident with a loose tooth at the age of 7. I actually think it is a cute flaw now, so I learn to embrace it. Lol, why am I just comparing your thoughts with mine. Sorry I didn't really answer the question haha. I just don't want to sweat as much and maybe have a smaller head or a wider body (I think asians tend to have bigger head/body proportions than europeans.) I would just like to be more well-proportioned. But maybe that is cause I needa gain weight. Ooooo I got one. MY HAIR! I just don't like how coarse, thick, and dense it is. Curling irons and stuff are a waste on me and styling is a disaster most of the time. Funny how all those shampoos are for volumizing and thickening hair. None for thinning it. I guess people love thick hair. -_- Either that or I'm weird. My mom has finer hair than I do and is very straight. My dad's hair is wavy/curly. I like my naturally straight hair and the nice dark brown color, just that the texture is so hard to work with! UGH, on really bad mornings I look like a lion gone wild.

So many complaints about hair... I'm beginning to wonder if bigfoot, sasquatch, and the yeti were just misidentified Eurasians.

You sound excessively self-aware of physical flaws but it's ok since you both are females ! A buddy of mine went under the knife because of he didn't like the shape of his ears...
I know that will sound strange but I bear little resemblance with my parents, maybe that's because my features are really blended or that I look like other relatives but that's not exactly what you were asking for.

^ I actually couldn't think of much that I'd like to change..., besides of the sweating and the coarse hair. xD I can live with one weird tooth, vampires are all the rage now and I have a natural vampire tooth! Score! Hahahahaha.

I don't think it's excessive to list 2-5 things that you would swap around if you could. I wouldn't go under the knife to change any of the things I mentioned. The only two things I would genuinely go to lengths (but not surgery) to alter are probably the sweat and hair. The other things are occasionally minor annoyances.
From my experience, many men are more insecure about their appearances than they let on because they think it's a 'woman's problem' (similar to how a man is far less likely to admit to being abused by his wife because he has to 'be a man'). However, just as women are bombarded with images of the perfect face and body, so are men. If women feel pressure partially from the media, men feel pressure too. Why else go to the effort of buying nice clothes, showering often, shaving regularly, getting hair cuts, building muscle tone (when it isn't absolutely necessary), buying things like hair gel and aftershave? ... If men didn't feel the need to be attractive, they would be fine looking like tramps/hobos.
Anyway, I honestly just thought it would be interesting to see how other people feel about how their parents' genes meshed together in them!

That reminds me... Anyone know of any fertility clinics that offer design your own baby services. There was one in LA, but they shutdown that program. I bet there are plenty of safe places around the world for those services, especially in Asia.

You're right. My physical appearance is so different from the image dictated by the media that I would need to change too many things about me to stick to unattainable beauty standards..
I've tried to work out to emulate the muscular manly model all men are supposed to be after, it ended up not working out as planned, no matter if I had 5 meals/day and hours of training (Asian genes!). Am I condemned to be a p**** for the rest of my life? In retrospect, it was never a concern for my past girlfriends and it isn't for me either since I've always abbhored their idealized take on body image.
The industry promotes youth, fitness and beauty to insure revenue by pressuring consumers into buying diet products, cosmetics.
Anyways, I don't see a particular feature I wish I had inherited from my parents.

Anyone know of any fertility clinics that offer design your own baby services. So teenagers in the future really can blame their parents for giving them an ugly mug. Ganbare! - Good point about not everyone finding the 'ideal' pushed by media to be the one and only way to be. It's true that there are plenty of women that love a skinny guy. There are men that make it very sexy and I've been attracted to them before. It's a pity that, in my case, I can't imagine being able to make excess hair or sweat ooze sex appeal!

^Sweating guys are hot. I like my men hairy in some areas like leg hair. No facial hair, okay maybe just a little stubble...that is pretty hot too. I like men with longish hair. I prefer men that aren't too fat or too skinny, but I don't choose based on that. It's just ideal to have a bit of muscle, but not body-builder buff. I just described my boyfriend in those few sentences. If he ever comes here to stalk me here...well...TYLER, BABY, I LOVE YOU! This dedicated to YOU and only you..you sexy MOTHEREFFIN beast! *blush*

I'm satisfied with most everything on me, but I wouldn't mind broader shoulders and larger arms from my father's side. Never know, I could still get them (19-years-old, I believe the cutoff for growth is 23).
Hate my thin wrists

^ I have very thin wrists too, you're not alone. My mom is actually pretty average/big-boned so I dunno where I got my skinny arms from.

I wouldn't mind looking more like my Vietnamese cousins, they are gorgeous! Generally I don't have too many complaints, but I wish I had more of my mom's temperament than my dad's. I'd also be happy if my eyes and nose were more asian, too.
