Our beloved EAN has fallen into the toilet for a number reasons, perhaps none greater than the rise of facebook.
There's no shortage of EA groups on facebook. "Eurasian Nation", "The Half Asian Takeover" and countless groups for each permutation of race.
Any one a member of these groups? What do you think? Made any friends? How does it compare to our EAN, at least during its better days?
--------------
My own observations
- Facebook EA groups littered with photo whoring. It's an ogle fest. - Few topics of any type of substance whether EA or non EA related - Not many meet-ups that I'm aware of (though a bunch of us EAN'ers did connect to a facebook EA group event in Hong Kong) - Inherent functionality of facebook groups doesn't seem to enable the same level of connectivity and interaction that proboards/a forum does. - FB doesn't seem to have nearly as many trolls and weirdos as EAN.

I miss the old EAN around 2002-2005 in the pre-FB era. More interesting back then except for the trolls.

I don't have an account. I like reading but my eyes are getting worse. Probably the Asian genes.

I agree with everything you said Rob. The Facebook medium is more about micro conversations as opposed to some of these 100 page threads discussing a single topic. I like Facebook but for something like EAN I prefer a forum.
I definitely think there is a place for both mediums, depending on what the user is looking to get out of his/her experience.

I tried to "like" your response, but I couldn't find the button. So I was forced to reply instead.

never really did the EA thing after this place. Living now in Calgary in Canada, it's not the best place to meet other EAs but I do meet the odd one and I feel a lot more empowered to say "hey you are exotic looking what are you?" and so forth. It's funny though because at one time it was a really big thing to have the community but now I feel more like before I came here again.

Evidently I can "like" posts here now. I should've wished for a million dollars instead.
