Why? You walk around oblivious. You can't hear, your head is in the clouds, you step on a pregnant woman's feet, you are oblivious to the old man trying to get past at his stop, you're constantly in the way. When someone speaks to you, you are inert. When someone SHOUTS a warning at you on the street due to a safety hazard, you don't look up. Do you understand what a fcking moron you are?

No, love. They don't realize they're morons because they are afraid of socializing. It gives them a world to be in, because they're too afraid to be in the real world.

if you re talking about MP3 players in general (why the philips one? it s quite misleading...would have been easier to convey your idea with an ipod) i quite agree with you... but i do think it s quite handy to have one when you go on a walk by yourself or when you cycle around town by your lonesome (when you need time alone)...even if i don t own one, i m still head in the clouds and end up singing to myself so i really wouldn t mind an ipod i think...depending on how you use it...i do think people over-use it though which is a shame.

I'm neither a delinquent or anti-social.... but I do listen to my iPod when I'm walking around in town or on public transport... Mainly because I enjoy listening to my music but also so that weirdos don't approach me or talk to me (on the pretense that I'm 'busy'). What I do find annoying is, for example, if someone is walking/eating with family or a friend and they are listening to music at the same time and half listening (or not at all) to the person... that's just rude. What makes me mad most of all is families with little *BRAT* kids where all of the kids have their own Playstation portable or Nintendo games and play them at restaurants!! ARGH!!!

^ That's rather ironic, I think I'm a delinquent and anti-social, but I don't own an ipod.
When I do have portable music and I'm sitting, I'll wear both ear plugs, but if I'm moving, I'll only wear one and I keep the volume down. Not so much out of consideration to others, but now I'll definitely think about that, rather out of paranoia for safety.

Seems like a trivial and petty thing to rant over. You should have your own special segment on 60 Minutes.

it's a great escape, and hell, most of us need some form of escape from our daily grind.
and better than idiots around here who'll play their mobiles out loud on public transport for everyone to listen to, whether you want to or not.

i don't have one for the same paranoid reasons as www....
but people using them doesn't bother me in the slightest - including kids playing on portable consoles in restaurants....
people playing music on their mobile phones for all to hear is...slightly annoying, depending on the music (i.e. i don't like what they're playing - if i do, i don't mind...haha)....
live and let live, no?
peace

I don't listen to my iPod in public. Outside noise interferes so there's no point. I could turn it up, but alas! I'd go deaf.
