So tragic... so evil. And it happened in Canada too.

It is. That's called religious extremism.
Those guidebooks have been written differently by different men and are, quite logically, interpretated differently by different men. That's why rule like Sharia are currently applied to various degrees, depending on the countries.

How many different interpretations are there to the action of "shedding blood"? This isn't extremism. This is a mainstream hadith. More importantly, it originates from Sahih Bukhari, one of the most popular and authenticated collections of hadith in Islam. Disputing Sahih Bukhari is like ripping out the Gospels from the Bible. About Sahih BukhariShedding blood is shedding blood. The questions lay before: why has blood to be shed? Because of reverting. Ok. But now what's reverting? To this question exist many answers, depending on the trends and people, e.g. more or less conservative. Laws are all about interpretation.

Wow.
Amazing what religious fervor can do for ya!
The strength and conviction to kill your own flesh and blood. Fabulous.
Reminds me of the stories from WWII in the Pacific, Japanese civilians killing their own children or parents in some cases rather than surrender. Some out of fear. Some out of propoganda. Others from devotion to god/emperor.
Can you admire dedication like that.....or is it just plain sick?
I vote sick, but I'll bet I can find someone around here to argue with me!

I don't think we need to assume that it was pleasant for this man to kill his child - chances are it was the hardest most painful thing he ever had to do, and he'll probably never fully recover from it. I'm certainly not defending it.
The Christians have a story about murdering your child for God too (you've probably heard of it, it's famous).

This guy lives in Canada and in 2007. AFAIK, at this place and at this time, murder is not allowed.

I have a strange sort of respect for a man that will place the laws of God over those of man. It's just unfortunate that his version of God (his interpretation at least) has some pretty f'ed up laws. (IMHO)

Oh. You admire devotion.
Well, if I wouldn't consider devotion's unfortunate results and would believe in a god as well, I'd agree with you.

I admire those that seek the universal, and those that will not simply bow to the will of the masses when it disagrees with his values. Devotion to the laws of the state is devotion as well.
If you hadn't heard, I'm agnostic.

There are hardly universal beliefs/practices. This murd... cultural shock, let's say, proved it. But I get your point. Stand in front of others for the sake of its opinion. Yeah. This way of thinking reaches its limitations when living in community.

I agree there's not universal beliefs, but religious people believe in universal laws because they think they're sanctioned by God. I'd like to think that eventually, maybe 100,000 years from now, we'll agree upon universal laws sanctioned by Man, until then we'll just have to go on killing one another I s'pose.
