Wow, did you read the comments on the bottom of the TMZ article? I can't tell whether it's more infuriating that people are twisting his words to mean that he's actually justifying the Holocaust, or that people are just so averse to thinking critically about these kinds of "no-no" issues.
I had to leave a comment: Reading comprehension, people- it goes a long way. Will Smith wasn't justifying Hitler's actions. He was referring to Hitler's underlying mentality. While it's very convenient to reduce things to a good vs evil struggle, life just isn't that simple. Although from a PR perspective, this was a very dumb thing to say, I commend Will Smith for actually thinking critically, rather than simply parroting blissfully ignorant sentiments just because they're safe.

I don't get the appeal of Will Smith. I find him acting as the same character in every movie...loud, cocky and obnoxious.
As for this, who cares what he thinks. He can hail Hitler if he wanted to. It's his right.

And so what if he thinks Hitler was good? Isn't there freedom of speech? Just because they were on the losing side we have to automatically side with the Allies vision of 'good. [/b][/quote] Word. As long as they don't act, those who preach hate should be allowed to speak out. Yeah, "they're incitating to murder" our governments would reply, but impeding someone to expose its ideas is contrary to democracy and freedom of speach.

It's call it the fundamental attribution error in psychology. Will Smith is one of the smarter people in Hollywood. He was offered a scholarship to MIT.
It is no surprise that a somewhat complicated notion like this would fly over the heads of the idiots in pop journalism. I hope you guys realize that most of those journalists in that field are dumber than us.
My opinion of Will Smith has not changed one bit as a result of this story, although my opinion of the stupidity of some media only worsens.
