Hey everyone. I'm new to this site . My father is South Indian and my mother is white (of German/Romanian/Austrian ancestry). A lot of people don't believe me when I say that I'm half Indian, and it does get rather annoying at times. I do look more Caucasian, but I guess you could tell if you look at me really hard Oh, I see the Indian, for sure. A lot of Indian women have those prominent eyes like yours. The way your eyebrows arch, the slightly downturned tip of your nose, and smile strike me as Indian too. Hope that makes ya feel better.

Anya lahiri(finnish mother and indian father) I have to say that I would have guessed she is finnish parthly or maybe even 100%. Her face is very finnish looking. Her face is wide, which is quite typical for finns. Some examples: Tarja Turunen, ex-singer of Finnish band called Nightwish. Hanna Pakarinen, singer

My mistake about Nigel Barker that I had posted in some earlier posts, one of the judges from America's Next Top Model. I just watched a new episode and he brought his mom on and said that his mom is Sri Lankan born in Bombay and his father is British/White. Sorry, I had thought his mom was Indian. But it seems as though hottie Nigel Barker is actually half Sri Lankan.. wow, would have never guessed it! Look at this pic. He looks pure Sri Lankan here. Especially his eyes, nose, hair and cheekbones. electricityandlust.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/nigel-barker-hair.jpgHe has Sri Lankan features and caucasian (pinkish) skin. Also, someone mentioned that Sri Lankans are supposed to be veeeeery dark? huh? I lived in Sri Lanka for 10 years, and all the kids of the majority race, whatever it's called, are like West Bengalis. They also have very nice features, notably nice eyes. Sri Lankans tan and burn very easily, though. Their cricketers look very dark. But ordinary Sri Lankans, are actually quite fair-skinned. I'm half indian/half norwegian, btw. I look like a North Indian kid with Hazel eyes.

SRI LANKANS First of all Sri Lankans are NOT all dark! Sri Lankan only means you are from the country of Sri Lanka just like someone is American or Canadian and you can be black ,white ,asian, hispanic etc. There are several different ethnic groupes in Sri Lanka Sinhaleese=majority of the country , tan skinned mostly, their ancestors are the Indo Aryans that invaded northern India. Decendents of Prince Vijaya Muslims=Arab traders who settled in this country Burgher=fair skinned people beacuse they are Sinhalese people mixed with the Dutch,Portugese or British Tamil=VERY dark skinned they are originally from southern India but now migrated to Sri Lanka aka Dravidian people So if someone says they are Sri Lankan that simply means they are from that country, they range from VERY fair skinned to very dark skinned because of their ethnic diversity

Someone said Nigel Barkers mom is from Bombay, Sri Lanka. You might want to go look @ a map there is no city in Sri Lanka called Bombay!! Bombay is a city in India. As for Nigel Barkers mom she is Sri Lankan but i dont know what ethnic group she is from.

^ From what I understand, I think the person meant Barker's mother was born in Bombay/Mumbai then later moved to Sri Lanka... but I could be wrong. Can't hurt to give him/her the benefit of the doubt. I didn't realize the Indian subcontinent was so diverse. The Philippines is like that too. Lots of ethnic groups. Well, here's another halfie. Actress Tulip Joshi. Half Armenian (yah!) / Half Gujarati I think she kinda looks like Katrina Kaif. I've only seen one of Joshi's movies so I don't know about her acting skills. She probably speaks better Hindi than Kaif though. haha.

Yes the phillippines is like that also. If you look up the word "multiracial" on wikipedia Sri Lanka is one of the countries that are mentioned. And SL doesnt belong to India (not sure if thats that you ment by subcontinent) they are their own country and have always been. My son is half Sinhalese and half American (German mostly and a lilttle Irish) he got a very differant look ,no one ever thinks he is half Sri Lankan(Sinhalese) or Greman/Irish. Usually South American ,Greek, Italian or even Palastenian! etc

I don't know if this has been mentioned I saw the beginning of the thread and noticed the obvious had been over-looked. Both Dutch and English trading companies had been visiting/trading with the East Indies since before 1600. In fact the English "Honourable East India Company" had a 21 year monopoly on trade there. Not to mention British Imperialism. Before Cornwallis was Governor-General, British troops openly socialised with the locals, sleeping with and marrying the locals. The children from these events evidentially brought Caucasian genes to the pool. It's as simple as that. The Caucasian genes might be more dominant simply because there's not the simple mix of one parent and another being from two separate gene pools. That's how appears to me anyway. It's definitely not that simple and you've overlooked a lot yourself. First, " the pool"? There is no one gene pool in India. There are tons of different ethnic groups whose bloodlines are retained even today because the vast majority of Indians still marry within their ethnicity and caste. I'm surprised you overlooked caste since it's always a popular subject when India comes up. Not only is mixing between different Indians rare, mixing with Euros was as well. Anglo-Indians make up a tiny community in India today (mainly in West Bengal where the British were based) and most of them have left for Britain and other western countries with their families after the British left India. I wouldn't be surprised if most Britons with Anglo-Indians aren't even aware of their Indian ancestry like this British actor. Moreover, most of those so-called "western looking" Indians are from the Northwestern states like Punjab and Kashmir while the British were based in Bengal in the East and the Portuguese were based in the South (the Dutch were in both). And you'll find even more "western looking" people further west in Pakistan and even more in Afghanistan, which was never part of any Euro colonies. Something's inconsistent here. Honestly, it's not necessary to look very hard. You don't look white to me; you look like a Bengali girl with pale skin and dyed hair. And you shouldn't feel annoyed; most people don't have the insight to tell. They see pale skin and think white.

My mother had a lot of students from India, I guess they were Brahmans, most of them had very pale, white skin, some of them looked Mediterranean too. I bet all their beauty pageant winners belong to the highest caste. Although I don't think that all Brahmans have white skin. I highly doubt your mother's students looked Mediterranean; people have a bad habit of calling any exotic-looking tanned person with sharp features "Mediterranean" or "Italian" or "Greek" or "Latino" nowadays. And most Brahmins* definitely don't have "white skin"; most of the Indian immigrants in western-countries are Brahmins are of other high castes and most of them are pretty brown-skinned. Those lighter-skinned Indians are from the north-west, regardless of caste. Low caste girls prostituting themselves in Rajasthan: And of course India's beauty pageant winners (or celebs or politicans, etc.) are high-caste. How would a low caste beggar girl get the opportunity or even be wasting her time on a pageant? Oh, and most of India's pageant winners are hardly "white skinned": ^The girl to her right is Indian as well, but representing Singapore. People from the northeastern part of india(bengal). Bengal is in Eastern India, not the Northeast. This is what a Northeast Indian (Naga) looks like: ^Those are colored lenses btw.

By looking at your photos to me you look like you are half white and maybe half oriental asian or a Latina. South Asian and white mixed children come out mixed, not all white and certainly not south asian looking. The reason people think of Greeks, Italians , Latinos when they see these people(mixed people) are because the Greeks and the Italians were once blonde haired blue race that was conquered by the moors who were dark skinned and as for latinos/latinas they were the natives to south america(mayas, aztec, incas) who were conquered by the original spanish race (blonde hair blue eyes and white skin) Its not out of bad habit people tend to use the example of the Latinas,Greeks ,Italians its just beacuse these races are made up of whites mixing with the dark races!
