what do you guys think? What about other people? Ive always had different responses to which race i look more like. In your own experiences, what do people think you look more like>>? Personally I think you look more Chinese (I'm just guessing that's what you are) than European.

I'd say split down the middle. I get varied responses. Some people tell me that I look 100% caucasian (which baffles me as my eyes are distinctly asian, I don't see how they can miss it!) and others tell me that I look 100% asian, but most people can tell I am mixed. Perception is a fascinating thing.

I'd say I'm split down the middle, Caucasians tend to think I'm Asian, Asians (well the Koreans in my old office in Korea town) tend to think of me as Caucasian. I seems to me I looked a lot more Asian as a kid and more Caucasian as I’ve gotten older, what do think?

I always have to tell how this Chinese dude won't believe me my German buddy ISN'T my brother. but now I'm a bit kyu-ree'ous what you look like, Tamar... I'll be studying Perception this year as a psychology unit, maybe by the end of it I will be able to shed some light on the whole thing. I think that ones perception is very much based on ones past experiences. Indy, for example, thought that I looked mexican when I met her as I look similar to this mexican girl that she knows. I'll send you some pics Kyu-ree. Finally found the usb cable the other day for my digital camera. I'll be interested to hear what nationality you think I look like. It's mainly other asians who get surprised when I tell them I have asian heritage. Just recently I started a conversation with an asian girl outside the uni library and she started talking about asian parents and I said how I could relate; she was very surprised. I think that the fact that I am quite tall (just under 5'10) throws people off as well.

I still get called gook or chink when I go back home to Pennsylvania.... That tells me I look 100% asian.
But in Chicago white people call me mamacita, Mexican bitch, and was told by drunken cubs fans as they passed by in their car that I should cross back over the Rio Grande and drown. So in Chitown people think I am Mexican. And one of the white doctors asked me yesterday if I was making tamales for Christmas. But I think it's because there are more Mexicans here. So white people's perception of any one with dark hair is usually very different from the Asian haters in Pennsylvania.
At work some of my black coworkers nicknamed me Pochahontas. Self explanatory as to how they view me.
Mexicans think I am from Guatemala. I have no idea why this is. I get Guatemala all the time!!!
Other Asians know I am asian and almost always know I am FIlipino. Filipinos still think I look Chinese. So no contest there, I look Asian.
As for white.....hardly noticeable to anybody. So I shall say Asian.

I think many japanese ppl look a little bit EA, many of them are very pale and have big noses and such.

Believe it. I read somewhere that Pennsylvania actually has more KKK members than any state in the south. When my husband comes with me they don't think twice about calling him a nigger....
Now in Chicago that would never happen. White people wouldn't dare say anything to a black person.(behind their back...yes. To their face...no) And I haven't heard one dergogatory word about asians as I've walked the streets here in Chitown. But that's probably because they think ...dark hair....must be Mexican. But even then the only people who will say something to me like mamacita..mexican bitch are drunk white or drunk black people,
Besides I think white guys in Chitown want to date Asian girls, not throw bottles at them from passing cars...LOL.
In pennsylvania....they don't have to be liqoured up to chase you down. Yes...I have been chased down, had bottles thrown at me. One black guy in my hometown was ordered to strip, chased down the road by the truck and then the two white guys threw him in a river. In the middle of January.
The black guy decided not press charges. (this was back in 1996 or 1997 not 50 years ago.....)
If this happened in Chicago there would be riots.

Around Asians/Filipinos and some Black folk my son is percieved as looking more like his dad. Which means to them he looks more "white". However, when white people look at my son most tend to say he takes after me, meaning he looks more Asian or Filipino. There are those who say both. Twice some white people spoke to our son in Spanish, once when he was with his dad, and another time when we were all together. I guess in those 2 situations they thought he and I were Hispanic/Indio. I myself am obviously not mistaken for white, but other Asians including Filipinos have thought I was Chinese. Once some Native Am. asked me what tribe/nation I belonged to. White and black folks usually guess some Asian ethnic group or Hawaiian, even Eskimo.

The black guy decided not press charges. (this was back in 1996 or 1997 not 50 years ago.....) I once saw a map of the United States that showed all the concentrations of hate groups (Neo-Nazis, KKK, etc). And on the west coast (on this map) there were a few hate groups, mostly in the big cities. But on the east coast on this map, it was REALLY dense. The area of North and South Carolina, for example, had soooo many dots (each representing a hate group). It was just big blots of ink on the map. When I saw that, the first thing that came into my head was "I will NEVER go there IN MY LIFE". Now, after reading your experiences, I think I'll add Pennsylvania to the list (seriously). I have an intense fear of being mistaken for a wrong ethnicity and the possible hate crimes that may result. Even though I live in the most ethnically diverse state in America, I still get worried about racism. Whenever I'm outside I will ALWAYS wear sunglasses...so that no one will be able to guess my ethnicity...and therefore I'll feel I'm safe from racist attacks. (yeah it's that bad). Oh yeah, and I definetely look Asian.
