secondlife.com/How familiar are you with it? Ever participated in it? (I never have.) Just an entertainment or much more than that?

I've seen stories about it on TV a few times. Want to play, but not really dial-up's best friend.

IMO, you'd have to be a n00b to spend real money to buy things in a game. :/

Not necessarily. There's a ton of free content on the game. It's like playing SIMS live, but with infinitely more freedom. The amazing thing about it is that it's ENTIRELY user-created content. You can design anything and choose to sell it or just give it away. And I mean anything. People make clothes, weapons (including going as far as scripting full the areas where the weapons will be useful--there are islands that are just big ongoing games of manhunt/tag/paintball etc), vehicles, bodyparts. It's actually a lot of fun if you're into design.
It's actually used for a lot of stuff now. Business hold conferences there because it's easier than everyone flying in, and more entertaining than webcams. Nike and Apple both have stores there. Musicians put on live streaming concerts there. And there's tons of islands that are basically interactive free form art. I've met some really fun people using it and it's a nice way to kill a hour or two some afternoons.

Yes, I am a geek. I accept this.
(But I still will not rest until I've found an attachable chainsaw hand for my avatar. Then she will be perfect.) I'll post pictures of my avatar if I get time to play today. ^_^
