Argh.
Well I just sold my much underused wii. $470.. not a bad recoup to be honest. But then again ocnsidering use wise it was practically brand new, it was still a stupid purchase. Once Zelda was finished, it just wasn't worth switching on!
Anyway, the plan was to split a PS3 amongst the household, using our wii money as a base. We're all finishing up uni in the next couple of weeks and will need some time killer for a while. I've had my mind deadset on the PS3 being the right console to buy, but now it comes time to buy it, all the voices I've heard in support of the xbox are starting to bug me.
Obviously the x-box has better game right now, it had quite the head start. But in saying that the sheer power of the PS3 is such a huge selling point for me, surely it's only a matter of time before it starts pumping out the ace games. Or is it?
I've done some online research and the indicators put xbox way out in front as the console to buy, some articles I've read have even rated the grpahics capabilities as beyond that of the PS3, but this is technical jargon that I do not understand. However, the PS3 is outselling both the xbox and the wii in Europe so likely the game developers are going to sit up and take notice soon.
Any thoughts? I handed in my thesis yesterday, my life feels empty.

ha, i'm actually torn about this too.
I'm into driving simulations personally; Gran Turismo 5 won't be out until next spring (in the u.s. at least).. from what vids I've seen of it so far, it looks like it's worth the wait.... but I probably won't buy a PS3 until then.

whatever you decide danny watch out for fan boy articles like "xbox 360 is graphically better", remembering that these fan boys are teens and young people, impotent nerds. propogating their nerdism to make you buy the product they bought.

I just realised I lost my 2 month old ipod nano yesterday . I think I'm going to have to buy another nano first! I suppose I do long arduous hours at the pub for a reason. I'm starting to tend to agree with Zoffs attitude. In fact, without even knowing what the winner of the HD format wars is, it might be silly investing into a blu-ray players at this stage. Anyway, with regards to your concerns over review sources shugi, I do take this into account and am well aware of the nerds who support video console companies like football teams. The article I referred to about graphical capabilities was wirtten buy a games developer that has worked on both machines www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-348-1.htm

I've got both and I think there are way more good games on 360 right now. A lot of games come out on both systems anyway, so that's something to consider. I think the main thing is to look at what kind of games you like. If you're into shooters, get a 360 since there are tons of those on the system. If you're into action/adventure games or rpgs, you should probably get a ps3 since those genres have largely been on playstation in the past.
Also consider which games are exclusive to that system. There aren't many exclusives for either system, but there are a few. Metal Gear Solid 4(!), Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted (game I worked on!) are just on ps3, while 360 has Bioshock, Halo 3, and Mass Effect.
Yeah....I've written too much now, I clearly care too much about games. Anyway, hope that helps you!

Problem is, I don't, and don't really care to figure out what that all really means . But if someone does, translate it for me. To think the article writer thought he was dumbing it down as it is. He's basically saying that the 360 is lot easier to develop games for. But that's been the case even with the last generation systems-- the original XBOX hardware was basically a PC in a console box, while the PS2 (with it's totally alien hardware and software tools) took a few years for developers to really get a hang of.

360 is poorly made. My bf has gone through 2 xbox's in about 18 months. his latest one broke 1 week after getting halo 3. the 3 ring of fire problem. but xbox acknowledges this problem and has a 3 year warantee on it. except when you take it back to microsoft (in asia), there is a 4-6 week waiting period to get your new one. which is ridiculous cos in the US you get one within the week.

I'm using my Xbox 360 more than I'm using PS3. It really depends on what kinda game you're into. As far as I know, the PS3 line up has not been exactly impressive, especially now they've lost excusive rights to some pretty powerful titles such as Devil may cry 4 and rumored MGS4. It's gonna be a little harder to catch up. It's kinda sad to see my PS3 sitting there collecting dust because I loved my PS2. And yeah, Xbox 360 is such a crappy piece of hardware. I think mine is on the path of breakdown too, it's having a hard time loading up my game.

^ I wanna know where you get the info that ps3 is not compatible with 1 & 2 generation playstation games, because Zoff at one point said something like europe ps3's are not compatible.
The actual truth is they are compatible only a handful of games are not and the figure is around 2/50 games are not compatible with a ps3 out of its box but there is a upgrade and with that all games are compatible. And it doesn't matter what country its being sold in the upgrade is international. I hope that dispells the myth

Did you consider waiting for the release of Mario before selling? That's going to be the biggest game of the year.

^ Yeah, this is what I heard in order to cut down the costs.
Sony's noticing PS3 buyers are not necessarily using the hardware to play games of its generation, but PS2 games or play blueray (which is actually kind of a joke at this point). The console itself doesn't sell, it's the games that bring in the profit. They're loosing profit because they're not selling enough PS3 games, and so this is the main reason why they're taking off the emotion engine.
