Sorry to deviate from the other threads but these are 2 newly released albums in which I feel it is my civic duty to devote their own thread to. 1) Kenna - Make Sure They See My Face Kenna's new new album was produced by The Neptunes (Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams) and is a mix of funk, 80s rock/alternative, and electronic music. I would suggest watching this as a sample: youtube.com/watch?v=JN-ysBuRVQA2) Lupe Fiasco - The Coolest There hasn't been anything like Lupe Fiasco since Nas in his prime or Tupac. Great story telling, amazing lyricist, versatile and awesome production on this hip hop album. I downloaded this album at first and immediately bought my 2 tickets to see him in L.A. and am going today to purchase it to support him. I predict it will be nominated and most likely win Album of the Year come award time. Two of the most refreshing albums I have heard in a long time.

Lupe Fiasco's debut album was fantastic. He certainly is a unique character that was needed in the hiphop game, and has the talent to back up his hype. I disagree with the comment regarding Lupe in the light of Nas and Tupac. I hope Lupe achieves much success and longevity with his musical career, but I do believe there have been a number of other artists since Nas and Tupac that can be held in the same light, and that Lupe is not the only one. Whether Lupe reaches such a feat is yet to be determined, but I will definitely support him all the way.
Also, you mentioned the Grammy Awards. Lupe cannot be nominated for the 2008 awards because the deadline has already passed (it was in Oct or Nov) and the nominees for the upcoming awards in February were already announced last week. He may be a chance for 2009 though when the album's release will be eligible, in accordance with the time window.
I'd like to also make the point that I believe The Neptunes are great producers. They are so creative with their sound and are able to transcend their melodies across numerous genres in terms of both critical and commercial success. It doesn't surprise me that they won the Grammy for Producer of the Year (non-classical) a few years back.
