Well, it was an adventure to reach the airport to go to Veracruz... once there it was great, I needed some days off and away from Hell. There I saw on the news that many parts of Monterrey were flooded and 2 of the main avenues were swallowed by a river... you can search for pics in google "Monterrey huracán alex"... thankfully nothing happened to my house nor anyone I know... but we have no potable water and 20lt cost now around 10usd... today outside my job there was a "battle" between criminals and federals/the army... we were smoking during our 10min break and some guys from inside a truck started shooting... a friend of mine got a bullet in his shoulder and the avenue was closed for about 2 hours... I feel back in Hell... I mean, Monterrey! =( www.milenio.com/node/484443

Is rock candy back in style? I'd imagine the vibrant colors go well with summer clothes.

All-you-can-eat seafood buffet today. Declined a previous invitation because I didn't want to pay $30 dollars, but they said they'll pay for me. If I'd known that I wouldn't have eaten today.

The deed is done. Plain black tee, Levi's 501, and my black leather jump boots.
Extreme eating with 4 other guys at my table. They each went through 8 stacked plates, but unfortunately for them, nothing less than 9 would cut it. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE! No way in hell we're letting the restaurant cut a profit, even if the proceeds go back to us.

So did you focus on the high value stuff? You have to watch out for iodine poisoning with all those shrimp, and mercury as well. I always enjoy the Alaskan King Crab legs at Vegas buffets but I'm sure I could eat much more if you didn't have to work so hard for every tiny bite.

Well, I made the mistake my first two plates of getting fillers like rice, steak, potatoes and stuff. But from the third to the ninth it was nothing but crab legs. At first it was a little hard breaking into them, but my technique picked up pretty quickly. If you crack them just right you can unsheathe, almost, the exoskeleton from the meat.

King crab = delicious and easy to extricate Snow crab = meh and difficult to get out

Who knew that the cockroaches at bottom of the ocean could taste so good...

The were King crabs, but iirc they're closer to spiders than they are to roaches.
I don't really go out of my way for expensive foods. Turkey or Tuna on wheat is just as valid as crab legs or lobster tails, and probably tastes better anyway.

I meant their ecological niche--not their morphology. In the cold deep ocean waters, food falls from the top. The corpses of dead fish and shrimp (from spawning) roll around on the ocean for days or weeks (thanks to the depth and temperature). And if crabs don't have this to eat, they eat each other. Scavengers and cannibals operating in darkness.
BTW, what kind of bugs do you eat?

Ahh, it's not like that man. I don't actively go for bugs, it's just that I can usually identify which are safe to eat and how to eat them. Might come in handy for a dare, or something.
Bugs I have eaten:
Crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, ants, termites, beetles (including water beetles), wasp and bee larvae, scorpions, tarantulas, worms, caterpillars.
There are probably others on that list that I don't really remember. Honorable mention to crickets and tarantulas for tasting good, though these were the only two that were cooked. Ants don't have much of a taste, but they are a strange sort of spicy.
Still, if I'm lost in the wilderness I'd much rather just catch a fish or some sort of mammal.

I had some ants once that tasted like lemon in the Ecuadorian rainforest: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrmelachista_schumanniNot bad, I think with some chocolate covering you could even market them to a wider audience. Haven't tried any other insects intentionally, though I'm sure I've had some others mixed up in random food. Spend enough time in a developing country and it's bound to happen. Eating a worm shouldn't be a big deal, nearly all humans have large amounts of intestinal worms, it's just a question of which species you consume (and whether you merely consume the eggs or an adult specimen). Crab and lobster are delicious, much better than abalone or jellyfish. Give me invertebrates with an exoskeleton anyday over a gelatinous blob.
