So lately I've been asking myself - is it healthy to be such an active member on a board that is for Eurasians (or just any race?) Is it unhealthy to focus too much on race??

I've said that to myself a number of time, yet still log on the next day. Although, I don't really spend very much time on here. Just when I'm forced to be at my desk with work to do My brother has criticised me several times when I've brought up something from EAN in conversation. He seems to think it is unhealthy aswell. I thought it was a bit of fun, I think we're in a different kind of situation to most I suppose. Then again, that is arguably concentrating too much on race. Ideally it wouldn't really have such a bonding effect. But I do not think it is that for me. I checked it out early on because I was intrigued when I came across it. I then didn't think about it for a long time. But having read a little bit on the forum I suppose I have found a few members on here to be intelligent and interesting people and as such check in to skim for any interesting conversation. My interest in this forum actually, these days has very little to do with 'EA' issues and as such I rarely contribute to those discussions. I'd agree it is unhealthy to focus on race per se. But what is interesting I guess are the people that have cross cultural backgrounds that are similar to mine including the ability to/experience of having travelled back and forth between Asia and 'other country'. That isn't as superficial as 'race'.

It's just natural. Don't worry it doesn't end when you get a BS/BA or Masters or get married or a PHD. You will always be who you are.
No one can hide! Especially in today's world.

Do we really talk about race all that much? We've got several different sections and most of the time, the word race isn't even brought up. I'd say we discuss cultures first then race sometimes second, sometimes never.
Do we really talk and mention race all that much??

^ It's not about talking about race, though. But like.. being around Eurasians.. now in RL I prefer talking to EAs only - which is RETARDED

EAN makes you think about the "Eurasian" too much. But now I find that its just a place where alot of cool posters hang out. Who cares what nationality people are.

Well, I originally joined EAN a few years ago because I wanted to talk about race with people who had gone through somewhat similar experiences. That yearning has died down. The whole race aspect of EAN isn't why I come back. I think race is what attracts you to the site initially, but feeling of being comfortable here is what makes you come back. I don't even talk about race on here anymore, or at least hardly ever, so I don't even really think of it as a race-related site. It still is of course, but I just don't see it or use it that way.

^ Ditto. I had all these questions about being EA, etc. but even once the questions were answered, I stuck around. EANers are ma homies. But like it just sounds weird if you and a friend are talking about forums and they like ask you about yours and you tell them it's for Eurasians.

^Oh, there's an easy way to solve that problem. Don't talk about forums...or lie and say it's about skateboarding. I think that the race aspect is mostly attractive to noobs. I remember when I first joined I would see older members talk about how they were bored with talking about racial identity and so on. And I thought "WTF? Then why even come here?" But I guess you just get really comfy here by the time your racial soul-searching phase is over, so you keep coming back. What can ya do...

If you don't go on EAN too frequently, you think less about the EA and Race stuff. And believe me, its like a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders.

I thought I would regret leaving EAN but the past few months to say, are sadly (or not so), the most fun I've had in so long. I'm glad I made that decision.
