I'm addicted to Ebay, but more so in a strategic manner. When shopping, I often look on eBay before plonking the money down in a brick and mortar store or even online. Chances are that I'll find the same item for considerably cheaper, especially when it comes to electronics. That and I get access to items I couldn't get otherwise, Canadian stores having such a wide selection. : In short, I'm more of a punctual shopper on eBay, searching for specific items to compare prices. Except when it comes to vintage clothes...I find myself losing an hour here and there browsing for vintage clothes. The 60's were groovy. Ever shop on eBay from other countries? There can be quite a difference in price and selection, it's worth it.

I've scoured around on French eBay for random sports accessories but find that they always grossly overprice the shipping to Australia.
They must seriously think that Australia is another planet or something - I've been quoted upwards of 30 euro to have a shirt posted to me(!).
That being said, eBay ist über krieg! Bugger window shopping off for a joke. You have a plethora of objects, items and random paraphernalia that you can gawk at and wish you could buy on eBay and you don't even need to leave the house.

I haven't purchased or sold anything yet, but there was one item which I had been tracking, for which the auction ended this morning. It was a brand new item, registered by a trader. I'd never bid on anything before, so armed with a strategy given to me by Cheeseprata, I was prepared to lay my maximum bid on the line in the dying seconds, thereby sniping the competition and ending up triumphantly raising my hands above my head with the spoils secured firmly in my dirty mitts. The bid went over my budget by 80 bucks an hour before closing, didn't it? Bastards.

Any eBay whores or addicts here? Bad experiences to tell? I should be asleep an hour ago, but I find myself wasting time scouring auctions. I haven't bought anything yet, but there's so many cheap, unusual objects that can be easily found with a friendly search engine. Beats the hell out of conventional shopping. Not an addict, but I've been buying stuff infrequently on eBay since around 1997. I've only had one bad experience. Some guy who had been a member for a few years and had a 100% positive feedback rating (including feedback from reputable buyers and sellers) with like 80 auctions under his belt was auctioning off a piece of stereo equipment (an esoteric, rarely-listed, high-end surround processor). The starting bid was ridiculously low, but it was supposed to be b-stock. At any rate, it was a fairly hard-to-find model, and I took the bait after communicating with the seller (but admittedly something didn't smell right about that guy and the tone of his e-mails, and a number of other interested bidders started e-mailing me about the seller too while the auction was going on -- the item was definitely, in demand). So, I won the auction (BTW, this was like 5 years ago). It turns out that someone hijaaked the real seller's account for a couple of weeks and was putting up fraudulent auctions -- this is what eBay later claimed. I got burned out of 1,500 USD (the receiver was worth almost $4000 new). This was before the different protection plans, IIRC. Anyway, that's risky business for ya. Only time that I've ever been ripped off, and I've bought a ton of stereo, computer equipment, high-end collectibles, and other stuff. Not the end of the world for me, but I was somewhat pissed.

Considering how much time I spend trawling ebay it's odd that I only have 7 reputation points. (all good of course).
Sold my wii last night. $475. Damn it was crap. Good price!

I love eBay. But I want it NOW. The few bad experiences aren't worth a quip. Ah, but the paypal email scams are getting old.

if you paid through paypal you should be able to file a claim. although i would bring it up with the seller first. maybe they will at least refund some of the money. but that's a bummer, nonetheless.

yahoo auction is famous in Japan. Like Emily I compare prices and usually its cheaper. Recently, I wanted to buy "Estee Lauder Idealist Micro-D" which cost 7500yen but I found it in yahoo auction for 4000yen. Amazing! Im also now selling stuff like "Betsey Johnson" hand mirror , Victoria secret bag, Tarina Tarantino Hello Kitty Bracelet and Half Life gamers mousepad. So far, all these things do is clutter up my room.
