Okay, so I thought maybe there could be a thread where we can warn each other about things that we've already been through. Okay, so: don't download IE Defender. It's not anything to do with getting rid of a virus. It is a virus.

^OHHHH okay. Flippin Fishball. It all makes sense now.
I can't think of any right now but I'm sure if I pulled out my quarantine thing there'd be a list. Poor thing, viruses are a bane. Did you have to reformat?

Have you met a virus that pretends to be a member of your family?
Theyre the worst kind :/

"Reformat"? See, I'm such a novice with computer lingo...I have no idea what that means. I basically lucked out because I realized it was a virus before the virus completely shut down my net connection, so I was able to find these online instructions on how to remove it, and I printed it out. That made getting rid of it pretty easy. I heard of this online site Panda Online that scans your computer for viruses and then removes them for free. But I'm afraid to use it.

I don't know much either. It's just the thing you do with the cd so that it starts your computer over like a brandspankin rosey butt newborn. Good thing yours was mild.
Trend Micro was quite reliable and reputable for me in the past regarding an online virus scan. Recommended by a friend who owns a computer store. As was Symantec (online scan), but their products are debatable. Never heard of Panda.

^Anything? Are you serious or are you playing dumb? The latter seems to be the cool thing these days. See previous post. I understand what you mean.

^I agree with AVG for a free one. I use PC-illin (Trend Micro) as its provided by work. I also recommend Spybot: www.safer-networking.org/index2.html for spyware and other stuff. It will help IE (by keeping the block-site list updated with known bad sites.) Its got a tonne of other functions as well, like a system-startup menu where you can configure what your computer starts up with, get rid of all those extra programs taking up memory. Someone been having problems recently?

I'm sure the 'Handbrake' application was responsible for my computer blacking out... and not turning on again.
