Back in 2001 I was in Indonesia for 2 weeks and saw some remarkable craftsmanship. I'm ignorant of the particular style or what have you, but the wooden carvings were just stunning. I was at a huge government run museum and it was obvious how proud they were to show of their cultural artefact's and quite rightly so.
As for a favorite? I dont have any in partiqular, I like a lot. If I get a chance to visit China this year I'm going to impress on my relatives to, hopefully, show me sumping!

From checking out the Saeki link I could recomend Nobuyoshi Araki, hes a photographer. When I first took photography in High school I saw a couple photos by Tokihiro Sato and that really got me into it. www.tonkonow.com/sato.html

I highly recommend Araki for you. www.artnet.com/artist/1592/nobuyoshi-araki.htmlHis stuff is also erotic One of my favourites is Tokihiro Sato. His light stuff was the first light painting i'd ever seen back when I was in highschool and it really inspired me.

Chiura Obata. Lots and lots to see, many styles. His "Obata's Yosemite" is great - I think it's available as a book (all the prints).

One question what would you define as Asian art? Pretty vague? A lot of parameters.
Asian can be anything? The term originates as Assawa/Asusa during Proto-Greek times in Western Turkey, the Indo-European homeland.
