i like dried squid. actually, i think it has another name, it's ojinguh in korean, does anyone know what its called in english? dried something...cuttlefish, perhaps? kyu-ree? I like cuttlefish too. Just not dried.

Thai Pra-ra (pickled fish in a jar) in other words, Stinky Fish. Northeastern Thai delicacy. I can't eat it plain only because the smell is so powerful. Used mainly with papaya salad. The making of pla-ra begins with cleaning fresh fish, rubbing it with salt, and stuffing it into a jar topped with bamboo bracts or betel palm bracts. It has to be left for 2 months. (Gross, I know ) During that time, the juice from the fish will come out and it can be filtered and kept as a seasoning. The fermented fish will be mixed with finely-ground roasted unmilled rice and kept for another 6-8 months before it is ready to be eaten. Yummy, eh? Rant: Every time my mom opens a jar of this stuff everyone clears the house. I have a friend that likes to look at the different foreign things in my kitchen. My mom likes to reuse food containers; tubs, jars, etc. So, it's a surprise every time he opens one and smells it. I smiled when I saw him pick up the pra-ra jar. He got a good whiff before dropping it and running to the bathroom. ;D Anyone for liver?? Um!

like to eat a deep fried "cow brain" and "tongue" served with hot fried red chili sauce and a bowl of rice. me! me! dont mind eating a heart too

Eurgh, my Mum waves goddamn Ba Gua in my face everyday. Her version is greasy, fatty etc. etc... *shivers* The 'real' stuff is much better, I *think* it's made of pork. On second thoughts, it's probably pig rectum, trachea, kidneys etc I don't think anyone's heard of Keropok; they're fish crackers with quite a distinct smell - depends how they're cooked. All my EA and British friends despise it. Yumm.

Yumm. ya i know keropok ["kerupuk" in indo] they come in many kinds of flavor but the most common ones are shrimp [kerupuk udang] and fish [kerupuk ikan]. im not a fan of it though but my dad likes it a lot

^ But do you really like it though?? I suppose that's the whole point of the thread, but I had it when I was in Scotland, and I can usually eat just about anything, especially meats, but I though it tasted like shyte!

I might've already mentioned this but... roasted crickets (we used to eat them as snacks at my Japanese kindy) It tastes like sugar, only crispier

I remember going out into the fields to catch grasshoppers. We'd go as a group and come back with batches to fry and used a special sauce on them. The tiny ones were the best. The grasshoppers in your pic look really plump and remind me of these other bugs we dug out of the ground. Yep, we ate those too. I use to get free batches of silk worms at the market because they thought the idea of a foreigner eating bugs was hilarious. Yeah... I got a lot of things for free. ;D
