Some other random McDonalds facts:
- it only takes 39 seconds to cook a hamburger patty. Quarter pounder patties take 1 minute 28 seconds.
- The "employee of the month" is often awarded to special needs or previously underperforming employees as a motivational tool. It's not always the best performer so do your homework before mindlessly congratulating someone.
- burgers are cooked on a two-piece "clamshell" grill. This is an important distinction when your friends call you a "burger flipper" since technically there's no flipping involved.
- The top grill is set at 425 degrees celsius and the bottom grill to 350. The fryer temperature is set to 450 degrees celsius.
- McDonalds uses beef tallow (fat) to cook the fries in. Thats what gives them their distinctive (and addictive) flavor. Vegetable oil is used for the Filet of fishes, pies and McChickens.
- McDonalds operates a university (aptly named "Hamburger U") in the outskirts of Chicago for training purposes. Each year, Hamburger U hosts the Hamburger Olympics.
- the McDonalds in Red Square Russia is actually owned by McDonalds of Canada. Its the busiest McDonalds in the world.
- McDonalds rigorously enforces the 3-Rs "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle". This does not apply to their meat.
- In every country, McDonalds has a different menu item catering purely to local tastes e.g., seaweed burger in japan or black pepper burger in singapore. There is always pressure to adopt a more wholesale change of the menu, but head office believes that consistency of product worldwide is more important than local relevance.
- There is no time for play around when you're working. If you have nothing to do, then clean something.
- if you're working production control (the guy behind the bin who decides how much of each product is produced) and a bunch of asians walk in, throw down 6 filets.... FAST!
thats it for now. I'm happy to entertain any McDonald related queries you have.
