;D well, i searched for other threads and couldn t find any .... and since i recently needed cooking advice i had to post it in the instant noodle thread but it didn t belong there so i guess it s best to make a thread for us EA wives to be who want to cook yummy dishes for our hubbys... ( oh , who am i kidding ?! this is the thread for us EA spinsters who got too much time on our hands ( actually not the case but heck, i like food !) and therefore glut ourselves w/ food we make ! )
so , here goes... first question ....
since i can t find Kaya in France, i was thinking of making it myself... but how long can you preserve it if it s homemade ? cause after all, it does contain eggs.... but it s like jam.... so if i store it in the fridge...how long till it expires ?

Ginger with chicken and fish. Especially for chicken and is a favorite of mine to bring out the flavor, add some spring onions too!

I think it lasts a fairly long time, maybe not as long as jam but its still pretty unperishible because of the insanely high sugar content haha. My friends granny made me a huge jar of home made kaya (its amazing) about 8 months ago and its stil good to eat . Apparently the hardest part it get it all creamy and the right consistency.

learn how to make man-food.
Sure, I'll pretend that I appreciate the dainty fish filets with poncy fruit salsas drizzled with whatever overpriced mixture of balsamic vinegar and "vintage" olive oil your cookbook tells you to buy finished off with some weird art/dessert hybrid with one of those silly sugar string nets over it, but if you can make a decent mashed potato (and I don't mean potato that has been mashed, I mean proper mashed potato with some flavour - go look at a recipe), pick out some decent sausages, pan-roast the right kind of vegetables to go with it and pick out a nice bottle of wine to complement it all - I'll be yours forever.
get to work.

lol at Penguin and Cristobal Thanks Jennifer ! i m on my way to buy eggs now ! that i can do ... pretty well actually, the secret is to do it in a skillet and use cream instead of milk... oh , add shredded onions as well as salt and pepper... vegetables are my speciality .... sauted, gratines, western, asian style...all u have to do is ask... can t do the sausage though... lol, i suggest.... not forgetting you had a pie in the oven ? a post-it might do the trick yup ! ginger ! lemon grass is also really yummy and these two meld rather well together ;D !!!

can t do the sausage though... I said "pick out" the sausages - you don't have to make them, that would be unreasonable to expect. The wine and sausages are tests of your taste - not of your cooking skill. (tip: get sausages with apple in them. heaven.)

maybe because you've never had a good sausage?
