You know when you go to one of those restaurants that has like japanese, chinese, and vienamese food all at once? This would be pan-asian cuisine. I've noticed that EAs have kind of a pan-asian feel to them sometimes. Like for me, I like a lot of korean and japanese movies, chinese martial arts, etc. And I'm relatively out of touch with vietnamese culture. But it's like it's good enough if I do anything asian-related. And therefore I'm in touch with my 'asian' side.

I don't really like how restaurants tend to mix cuisines. It's like, there's a huge sign outside that says CHINESE BUFFET, and then inside they're serving Sushi, Pad Thai, and Kim Chee That doesn't really help people understand the differences between individual Asian cultures. It just makes everything look like generic ASIAN.

Being truly Pan-Asian involves more than just foods and entertainments, of course.

pan-asian is nouveau along with asian-"fusion". I always feel like going to Spring Rolls Go or something when I pass by...... Ohh, sorry, I thought we were still talking about food!

Yeah, I'm kinda like that to Because I grew up in Europe, everything Asian interests me, as I am very interested in learning about Asian culture seeing that I grew up in a predominately "white" area. I feel like I have to "catch up". I'm very in touch with chinese culture, and I'm learning mandarin at the moment, but I'd love to learn Korean, Japanese, Tagalog etc too. I am also very into both Chinese, Japanese and Korean films, music and entertainment. But at least I can tell the different cultures and languages apart - like I can tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese architecture, language, costumes etc, I'm not one of those "Oh, they're all Asian to me!"

I'm suddenly intrigued in the korean music scene, south side represent. This happened because I heard a cool korean rap (Yes, i recognised the Korean! [after my mum told me]) on The OC, which i just happend to be watching on a saturday at 6:23pm. It was the episode where that girl goes out with that korean rock star or something to the ball. Now, why is my cursor not blinking? Anyways this rap was really catchy and 's*** i need morreeeee' etc. etc. I found out about the band that played it, 'Bratsound', and this does not seem to exist. s***! NOOOOO (track 'One Day') Anyways I'd love to hear some KOREAN rap music which doesn't have a happy tune with it (english e.g. 2pac Shakur West Coast This is how we do Gangsta' - 'Life goes on'). Movies: Korean: I've seen a few. They're good; some are superb. But I don't like the ones which start off in a comedy theme that ends in some bloody dramatic AO movie. Chinese: I admit; I've only seen that tiger one, where they fight in mid-air with swards, and jump on the roofs (rooves?) That movie was s***. I've seen a bit of shaolin soccer (or something like that) with dubbed english on youtube or something; hillarious. Japanese: Only seen that final fantasy movie. Graphics were supoid. But it seemed like that chinese tiger movie, except with computer animation, 'gunblades', and the crazy hairdos. Haven't seen other asian country's movies. Food: Korean: Have it most days. Japanese: SImilar to Korean i suppose. Hope i wrote this reply right. But HOW do you exactly ACT 'pan asian' In contrast, how would you like 'act american' etc. etc.

Well I just assimilated into whatever group of friends I was hanging out with at the time.
In elementary school I was into origami. My Japanese friend and I made 1000 paper cranes and we strung it up on a mobile! But then all the Japanese kids went back to Japan...
In middle school I used to hang out at the Buddhist temple a lot with my Chinese friends. I think I went to temple more than I went to church. Then there was the anime phase that hasn't quite passed...
In high school I got more involved in Filipino cultural events. I learned how to dance tinikling!

You know in my old school, in 2004, if a japanese language learning student made 1000 cranes, he/she got a free trip to japan! -ofcourse, nobody bothered. We were hard working students.

but back on topic: everything I cook is pan-Asian... I can't really cook Korean Well..., it's really easy. You capture one, roast it, then serve it with some kimchee, of course! ;D

Acting Pan Asian.. Interesting thought, yet I am not sure how much ideas are commonly shared among Pan Asian countries. I lived most of my life in Japan and I know how little most Japanese know or care to know about other Asian countires and their cultures. There is so much tension right now over Yasukuni and historical issues with its neighbors. I would like to see Japan becoming more of good friends with its neighbors. I am not so optimistic about it though.

Japan needs to be more Asia oriented. hmmm you got a point there...like japan anime are more european/american other then japanese oriented...hardly of other asian countries...hmmm but in the movies...many japanese actors/directors had worked with other asian countries..like 2046..three extremes (korean/japanese/HK/thailand) ..and one of my favorite..."last life of the universe" with Tadanobu Asano in a movie from Thailand personaly..I think I become more pan-asian...but that because I moved to Amsterdam and had gotten some asian friends...beside my best friend who is chinese...I normally have only Dutch friends from my birthplace...so it was pretty new to me ..eatin with chopsticks...dim sum..and getting to know one of my favorite cuisine ..japanese food ..."tokyo sushi bar in Amsterdam" I also watch many asian movies ....kung fu/HK movies I was brought up with..(mainly because of my chinese relatives from indonesia they sent all of these great stuff to us)...raymond chow ..john woo ..jackie chan..sammo hung....Gordon Liu.chung yung fat...not the new one the old one are great..project A ..my lucky stars....police story..drunken monkey..36 chambers of shaolin..hard boiled..etc.. japanese anime and akira kurasawa movies..."platonic sex".."battle royal"...Azumi 1 and 2 ..."nobody knows" but recently there are more movies from different asian countries that are great..like "I stupid" (singapore) Ung Bak 1 and 2, the Unborn (Thailand), "Feng Shui" (philipines) ..etc. and yes the korean cinema...all the Kim ki Duk movies like "bin jip".."samarian girl"..etc. others are.."tales of two sisters"..."my sassy girl" .'a bittersweet of life" and I'm learning my native language...indonesian and malaysian...other asian language I'm interestin in is Japanese
