yeah yeah 'man's best friend' bla bla bla. Is eating dog meat alright? What do you think about it? I thought it was only around china (and just had to search it up), but I WAS WRONG. Other countries which serve dog meat are switzerland, philipines, korea and mexico. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_meat I should tell the weak hearted EANers; That link doesn't have any sad pictures on it. Looks like mushrooms.

Wow, Switzerland?! I never even suspected that Swiss would eat dogs. I only had a taste of it when I was very young, but that was the only time. Honestly, I wouldn't condemn those who have a taste for dog meat, but I wouldn't exactly say it's my part of my regular diet either.

i can t answer this poll .... cuz i m a vegetarian and basically don t like the idea of eating animals...if you know a lil about buddhism you might understand....yet i don t condemn those who do because men are indeed born meat eaters... and i don t force my beliefs on anyone... but i don t really like it when people who do eat animals go "it s so cruel to eat dogs !!! " and yet to them, it s not cruel to eat cows...this is just like racism.... just because dogs are pets and cuter doesn t mean it s more cruel... and i hear a lot of westerners criticize asians cuz they eat dogs or cats... but i say a lot of Indians could criticize them for eating cows... animals are animals and wether it s a cute puppy or an ugly pig, eating them is considered "natural" for humans since we were born to eat meat... yet i don t like doing so, so i m a vegetarian... but if i weren t , i don t see why i should make a difference between these different species...

flesh is flesh (with the exception of human, cos cannibalism's icky.)i think once you get past the decision of whether eating flesh of any kind is right for you,the rest is just a matter of personal preference.

This is probably one of the best rationales I've heard in a long time. Unlike my workmate was into PETA etc and wanted me to contribute but honestly, her opinions seemed based on emotion and were conflicting in terms of what she ate. As a result, I didn't feel convinced by her arguements. I'm more likely to be engaged when I'm being talked to...rather than AT. In the same vein, I told her I thought she let her emotions get in the way of her passion (this is based on her showing me some letters she wrote to various organisations). I believe there is a difference when trying to convince someone about your cause. Ok, back to dogs. I would feel funny, because I've been brought up with dogs as companions. Mind you, if I was stranded on an island and it came down to a choice between Fido and grass...well... Incidentily, this post reminds me of some dickheads abusing me in my home town. I got called "Yellow bastard" and "dog eater". Sheesh...and that's in the town I was born and raised....

I'm not sure the whole "flesh is flesh" or "animals are meant to be eaten" thing works for me.
I've befriended several pigs in my lifetime. Loyal, bloody smart animals and I remember the shrieks and cries they'd emit when my grandpa wrestled them to the ground, locked their heads between his knees and then slit their throat. Cattle slaughter isn't pretty either and they definitely suffer through it.
blah blah blah yes i know death is all natural, but when i compare the slaughter of "red meat" with fish and fowl, health benefits notwithstanding, i can sleep a little better eating the latter.
As for dog meat, if you eat sausage, I don't see the problem.

Well,in terms of fish, asphyxiation isn't such a pleasant death, and plenty of chickens are kept in terrible conditions prior to their actual killing,so they don't have an easy go of it either.i've heard that pigs are intelligent creatures and i have no doubt that cows do suffer during their slaughter.i respect your opinion,Rob,but do you maybe think this way because you can anthropomorphize a pig (having kept them as pets) and therefore feel more guilty than you would about other animals?i still think that eating flesh vs not eating flesh is a much more valid ethical issue than what kind of flesh is morally ok to eat (just my opinion,i'm not preaching.) i guess i'm playing devil's advocate to some degree because i'm not a big fan of pork or red meat either.

I hope my earlier post didnt indicate a rule-based approach to meat consumption. Ack, I guess it did kinda. What I'm basically trying to say is that my inclination to eat any meat is largely based on my comfort in me personally killing the animal in question. Purely emotive. I've killed chickens, fish, crab and seafood before and that's a breeze. Suffering or no suffering on their part, it's pretty easy for me. Never killed cattle or pigs but I've seen it first hand. I know I could definitely do it, but I'd choose a path of less resistance if it were available (ie. other things on the menu). So that's my lame explanation for eating what i eat. Of course when I'm starving, I'll eat anything you put in front of me, but I'll consume as little of the red meat as possible so that the remaining 1/2740th of a cow can walk off the plate and run free. but on a logical and moral/ethical basis, you're right. there are better ways to approach the issue and i realize most people would approach it that way.

Kyuree, regarding your civilised comments, No I'm from new zealand. But since i've south korean parents, ...why am i telling you this? Anyways, to the other part of the question, yes, by a chinese felcher, who was ridiculing koreans, when I had no idea back then. He will live a short life, but have no pity. But anyways, conseuqently...... ....wait for it...... [Juniper, I've questions. If mice, rabbits and birds can, why can't humans??? Isn't THAT just like racism, like hapalicious suggested? o f*** where am i getting at... ok. ] ....wait.... [klacoste, you say that dogs are equal to humans... what a nice, sincere thing to say! Now, have you ever, dated, a dog? joking] ......but consequently, I've been doing some reserch, which I didn't enjoy. It seems korea does have dog meat, even tho it's illegal, like how it is in like the phillipines... ? Anyways, the ways how the dogs are slaughtered are HOLY f***! SHIZZLES! KPAO! AIYA! KONICHI WA! It's cruel how the dogs are slaughtered. sirius.2kat.net/phil.html (that's got some disturbing images, so watch out. What I did was resized the window to that it's nearly flat, and just read the parts, rather that look at the images. ...But yeah... i did see them hehe ... ...O Tee Hee, It's got vietnam in that site as well! All in all, it's fair for me to conclude that you shouldn't eat cows. Eating dogs, or any other animals, is not right unless it's been slaughtered 'humanely', with minimum sufferage. There should also be compensation for the slaughtered animals' parents, who will miss them, forever, before they end up in slaughterhomes. Eating cows isn't right, amen.

Eaten dog....christ that sounds odd...a couple of times and didnt think too much of it. Not a preference for me but if I there was no other choice and mutt was all there was then I'd be ok with that. As for cat, I have to think about that......yep, I'd eat that too if there was nothing else either.

But if it was hidden like dog lumpia I bet it wouldn't taste bad. I've had worse....in Cuzco Peru they serve CUY which is guinea pig. It was tasty but it was weird staring at its deep friend head and body and plucking all the fried flesh off (curious people it tasted exactly like fried chicken.) Kitty cat....I could never eat a Maow

Dog meat doesn't taste so good. so, only if there were no other alternatives. Umm... but i'm talking about a dog that is specifically bred for eating, it's prepared a certain way and raises your body temperature temporarily after you eat it... i think it's chinese in origin.
