I don't want to belong anywhere. I am a guest everywhere, and I am comfortable with that. People who persist in reiterating patriotic slogans feel more comfortable as a part of a group, a click. This kind of unity is an illusion. Please forgive the crudeness but i thought you were being whiney about not being accepted? I am confused and very hungover at the moment.

Maybe I was talking about harassment? It is a different thing. I'd rather be alone than with a bunch of retarded idiots who like to gather in packs. I haven't had a chance to be alone anyway.

For me, the biggest problem I have is people seem to care so much about where I'm from, or assume where I'm from based on how I look. Asian friends often ask me where I'm from. Caucasian friends often assume I'm from ________ based on how I look. I'm not trying to deny my heritage, it's just that I don't think it should be made a big deal!!! I speak your language, I can communicate with you, does it matter where I'm from? Are you going to be less interested in interacting with me based on the answer I give you? I like the fact that I'm multicultural. It gives me more perspective to how I see things because inevitably, culture influences how a person things more or less. I believe it's better to experience and live different cultures than to be stuck in a monoculture bubble and be completely arrogant about it.

Such is life. I still have awkward moments sometimes, actually, most of the time when I'm with any ethnic/cultural group. I think I'll probably just be pretty awkward everywhere for the rest of my life. Like what deuce said, you'll probably feel like a to everywhere you go. But your unique upbringing makes you you. But don't dwell on the "I don't fit in" thought. It's pointless and will lead you nowhere. Embrace the cultural and ethnic ambiguities about yourself and look at the more positive things in life!

Why do people see experience cultures as a bad thing? No i enjoy being cultured. Who is more interesting? A person who can speak just English or a person who can speak Mandarin, Polish and German as well as English? A white person who can cook Japanese food or a Chinese person who couldnt care less about their heritage? A person whos know sign language or not? I admire people who are unique. I find cultured (no matter what type) better than uncultured. Who wants 'ordinary'? It perplexes me how people get so worked over wanting to 'fit in'. You should satisfy yourself at the end of the day, not other people, i guess. As a child, I went to a school that was 95% 'ethnic' as opposed to 5% non-ethnic in that 95% of the pupils came from non-English speaking backgrounds. Every now and then the school would hold cultural festivals with everyone included... people shared each others cultures and mixed them in so everyone had there go at it. 3 years later....i moved up to hicky Queensland. EDIT: Sorry about my one line spacing....i think i have some type of OCD or something...

I'm basically interested in many cultures....as in my own...I was brought up in a town where there's not much mixed kids...as a kid you wanna fit in somewhere...and not being accepted in your own culture was kinda hard...being an outcast and always gets stuck in the middle ..was no fun for a kid.... as I got older ...I have accepted this...and yeah I move to Amsterdam... a lot of cultures to share where do I fit in? ...I don't know...uuhhh EA ...I don't care anymore...I enjoy every moment of my life....f**k all the monocultural thinkers...if we all keep mixing...there won't be any racist left...but there still will be prejudice...argh nothing is perfect
