Homeward Bound, when they fall in the hole and have to leave Shadow behind because he's too weak to make it. I mean, it works itself out in the end, but shinola, that was sad =( Homeward Bound was one of my favourites as a kid. Got me every time. i havent watched it in probably 10 years, but i bet it would tear me up again. The ending of Finding Neverland. I don't think there was a dry eye in the cinema.

Scotland the Brave has such a rebellious sound to it. down but not out kind of emotion i guess.

Once again I agree with decepticons.
I think people are all different, but that for some of us music affects us emotionally more than visuals. I've come close to tears at the symphony and ballet before, so I know it's not just the look on the actors face (or even necessarily the plot and context).
I haven't seen any silent films - a few Chaplin movies, but always with music. The whole idea of watching a movie with no sound is strange to me, but I'm into the idea. Can you recommend any great (not necessarily tear-inducing) silent movies?

you should watch Buster Keaton's "The General" and this (i think) German one called Sunrise.
Sunrise was a great one. all about this guy being seduced by a city girl and so forth. really good. and of course The General is a classic.

Graves of the fireflies. Never though I could cry while watching an anime but this one almost had me balling. I think I shed one tear but my sis was like a freaking fountain sitting on the other couch.

^i think it has a lot to do with the music usually though. Definitely definitely. I reckon if I muted Last of the Mohicans and just watched it without the pounding, rhythmic swelling violins, it would lose about 85% effectiveness. Especially as Alice's acting, even as she tumbled off the cliff, was rather atrocious.

keaton was a maniac. he did all his own stunts. he almost died a couple times. regularly broke things. he was like the jackie chan of silent film.

then i guess it would make more sense to say chan is like the keaton of martial arts films.
and that Where the Wild Things Are trailer gets me a little misty. mostly because i just dont like seeing the Wild Things all sorrowful in the trailer. its like seeing your childhood heroes crying. and that arcade fire song was a good choice.

Ghost...the movie that ruined it for all living men.
"Why can't YOU die and come back and give me a penny?!"
or
"Why can't we make pottery together?!"

Dumbo! He's so cute and adorable, it just cuts my heart to see him rejected and crying little elephant tears.
And Hotel Rwanda. Especially the two parts with the child choir on the soundtrack. It is such a haunting sound combined with those scenes in the movie = I'm gonna cry.
