A couple days ago, I've surprised myself having racist thoughts. I was walking on the street and I bumped into an Asian female, she was walking her dog and I was like ''That's odd, I've never witnessed that before, they usually like them roasted don't they?''. Guess even though I'm mixed, I've been way too influenced by racist stereotypes towards other races in the West.

As Jackie Chan said in Rush Hour: "You wanna be Chinese, have to eat the nasty stuff"
Though it is a generalization, there is some basis to the idea that East Asians are more adventurous eaters. There aren't really any dietary taboos, unlike for Indians, Jews and Muslims worldwide, and there is a greater willingness to eat strange things. Some of it has caught on in the west - most notably sushi. The idea of eating raw fish, fish eggs, and seaweed would have been revolting to many in the west now but is becoming commonplace. I don't know if they'll ever warm up to dogs. In my travels I have eaten Llama and Guinea Pig in Peru, almost every part of a cow's body in Argentina, sheep brain in Burma, some kind of unidentified raw seafood in japan, and of course the chinese delicacies of shark's fin soup, abalone, and jellyfish. I have never tried dog (missed the chance when I visited Hanoi) but I'd be willing to if the opportunity presented itself.
There is something a little harmful about the association with eating dogs, since they are such a revered animal in the West. I think it is associated with ideas of being less civilized. But just imagine how Hindus feel about us tucking into burgers? Or how muslims feel about us eating pork? Me, I'm all for equal opportunity animal flesh eating. So even if I assumed that an Asian person was more likely to have eaten or be willing to eat some weird animal, which may be an unavoidable unconscious generalization on my part, I wouldn't hold it against them - if anything, it makes them cooler in my books.

i second what betahat said....aside from all this, i never quite understood how the whole "asian people eating dogs" stereotype caught on in the west. i mean, if it were something that happened very openly and frequently, then yes, i could understand why that stereotype would be so ubiquitous. but i have never ever seen any asian restaurant openly serving dog in the US. ever. only in asia. and this coming from someone like myself who's pretty adventurous when it comes to eating out and eating meat.

I wonder what Indians in the parts of India who see the cow as sacred feel about red necks eating beef?

If you read carefully it appears obvious that I THOUGHT and NOT said anything, moreover the question is really unrelated...
Instead of enriching the debate with some ideas, both above posters decided they would show how self-righteous they are... but hey appearances matter even on the web.

I guess I crack jokes every once in awhile about Thai whorehouses (and the manladies who inhabit them).
General Asian prejudice wise -- I think the Japanese are completely out of their minds, and if Indians count as Asian, well... There's always the Apu impressions.

I was looking at a Down Syndrome person and was saying to myself, "Evil." Usually they look and have problems with agression. Than I looked at this Asian guy and wanted to say, "Hey it's your cousin." Evil thoughts. Also saw this Indian guy and just wanted to make fun of his complexion. Bad thoughts but I couldn't stop thinking, "So not American." Perhaps in the not to distant past he would of been a slave in the South. And than I was thinking of the riots in England in 2001 between Whites and Indians.
