Crichton was one of my favourite authors while I was growing up. "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" both played huge roles in developing my interest in the written word..
From IGN.com: Best-selling author Michael Crichton, responsible for writing such science-gone-wrong epics as Jurassic Park and Sphere, died in Los Angeles Tuesday, election night. He was 66.
According to Yahoo! News, the author passed away due to complications resulting from a private battle with cancer, according to Crichton's family.
In a statement released to media outlets, the family says: "Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand."

I am ashamed that I was not aware he was suffering from cancer, or is it that the illness was so private it was not leaked out until his death? 66 is very young. Either way, even though his ideas were a bit controversial at the end, what a bright and interesting person.

Yeah, his family kept it private, along with any details of his death (not that anyone should know). 66 is young and too bad. Not to knock him, but I actually wasn't much of a fan. I guess he's known for scientific stories, but I think the only things I liked from him were ER ( ) and Disclosure.

Read most of his books. His early books were tinged with Ego and pride. Was really interesting in that you saw his evolution of self with his progression of works with age.

I will never forgive the laser beams shooting at Gorillas in the movie adaptation of Congo.

Oh no.. He was also one of my favorite authors. Michael Crichton challenged everyone to question their surroundings and to have a mind of their own. RIP
