I think the second version is far more attractive - I have a preference for a softer edge (i.e. cuter). The 1st girl looks like she would actually slice my head off. The 2nd looks like she would only pretend to slice my head off (then throw away the sword and give me a hug).
Girls in China would often mock expat men's taste in Chinese girls. To go out with a western guy was almost synonymous with admitting that you were ugly in the eyes of your compatriots. So as an EA, girls always wanted to know whether I had Chinese or western taste.
But I never quite worked out what got the expats going. Nor did I really know what the locals went for either. Though, in truth, most expats did have ugly Chinese girls, but that's prolly just coz they had to make do with whatever they could get.
I think the Animatrix girl looks like Maggie Q.

Secondly, the first one is prettier than Lucy Liu Go sell crazy somewhere else - we're all stocked up here.

The second one looks like a young child with disproportionate anterior protrusions - doesn't seem like a character of much substance (or brassieres). Youthfulness/breastfulness are inversely related to substance. What an unfair stereotype. Still, it makes me want to draw a graph. Anyway, if I were searching for an assassin with parkour skills, I'd probably choose the first version. I find the second one more attractive, but I certainly wouldn't kick either one out of the sack. Unless the second one turned out to actually be jailbait or something. Then again, what with all of the assassinating going on, maybe it'd be a bit of an "in for an inch, in for a mile" kind of situation. Also, the second one's face reminds me a lot of another video game character's face in specific that I can't remember. There was this kind of comparison/study of the Final Fantasy series' heroine's features that might be pretty relevant, but I can't dig it up.

Truly is an unfair generalization. But you might have seen the note about brassieres.
Let's be honest. Those tictacs are strategically placed and no self-respecting warrior or woman would be battling evil with pendulums unsecured.
Come to think of it, do not men also wear inner shirts under their collared/dress shirts to prevent such ...generous sharing in a cool conference room? Jock straps when trying to save the world? How come batman has a plastic body brassiere?
Second pic - basically impractical. And along with those tatts, detract from the "reality". Ah but the joys of an illusion.

i played a little of this game. it's actually pretty cool. It's not a combat game by the way, it's based a bit on "parkour". More about acrobatics. She looks a bit like Nic Endo -- Eurasian Badass, from Atari Teenage Riot

I like the first picture as it breaks the Final-Fantasy-style-mould of having the eyes, boobs, shiny spiky hair and I cant take her as a serious fighter than the first (she does looks kind of scary ) I think the asians don't like the top.... maybe because of the eyes? My mum (the asian parent) thinks pointy eyes look unattractive :S but that's just one opinion I suppose

How come batman has a plastic body brassiere? You know, Spiderman's attire has always struck me as being especially sheer. His Spider-manhood really should be flopping around as he swings through the streets of NYC, although this could be explained away by his possibly canonically tiny penis (see: www.strangehorizons.com/2007/20071001/spidermanreignPenisParker.jpg possibly nsfw).
