Several people have said that as adults we have fewer opportunities to make friends, this to me is a commonly believed fallacy. As adults we actually have the opportunity to meet a much larger group of people if we are willing to get out there and do it, we're simply not forced to as we were in school.. another thing about school was that we're forced to see the same people over and over so we're bound to end up liking some of them. The biggest thing in my mind is simply adults have different (higher) standards for what they'd consider a good friend (i.e. - kids have no standards ). - Aphid : I don't know .. there's an awful lot of weird folks out there, pretty much everybody's got something eccentric goin' on.

That kind of emotional response sounds pretty interesting to me. p.s. - give me credit for a little bit of anger too.

Being bored by someone is hardly an emotional response.

The biggest thing in my mind is simply adults have different (higher) standards for what they'd consider a good friend (i.e. - kids have no standards ). I'm thinking about two things. First, kids are more... well, childish, naives; they're less hesitant to meet people, make contact (and they can distinguish friends from acquaintances, started from, say, 12). Then, being forced to see each others five days a week for at least one year, it helps creating bonds (or not), for sure. The latter characteristic is found in other environments, like in the army. There you can get to know someone twice as much. But you're also right about the different standards, adults become gradually more and more picky.

Yup, by the time we're adults we know what we like and what we don't, and we don't waste time on what we don't. It's a good thing..

Being bored by someone is hardly an emotional response. Crying is. Do I have to remind you that your posts towards me (and to Mr Bird) have been the most overtly emotional posts on this site in months? p.s. - I'll be your friend Ms Aphid

I remember about this girls saying: "Oh this guy? Yeah he's still my boyfriend... I haven't found a better one yet".
That was quite a shock to hear that.

See my above comment Wasting time with people you don't like can only end in mutual frustration.. yes?

Yes, but that's not always as simple... like if one finds itself in a relatively closed community. In that case it's more like "Be with some folks which aren't real folks or be alone"... the choice is clear.
