Well, I'm pretty sure Mr Bird meant physical size. And if Mencius is talking about population not size in the first statement then the second is purely redundant. Is he really that lame? I don't think so, shouldn't speak for him, but I think it's safe to say Mencius meant physical size. Either way, the quote is lame, that is all I really wanted to emphasize.

He was talking about Japan being small. Yeah, that quote is lame. "A small country cannot contend with a great; the few cannot contend with the many; the weak cannot contend with the strong." - Mencius - The few can be strong, the few can be great. This quote loses, it's just that easy. This looks like a quote taken out of context. What was the context?

This list is, like, sooooooo unPC, but I generally agree. The only thing I disagree with is the Koreans being ranked higher than Chinese. I think they should be on the same level. In the Asian world, Korean pop culture is quite dominant, more than China's and even Japan's in many instances. In the Western world, I'd say Japan > Korea > China, basically showing the length of time each has been westernized.

How about Oriental country that spread and invent diseases, hiding the number of aids victims (in millions), number one air and water pollutants, and manufactures low quality, pirated and unsafe products should be at the bottom pit - then China qualifies

Merry Christmas to you! *edit - and her Asian ranking should be called Oriental Ranking as a whole.

Singaporean Chinese and Taiwanese..

Right. Singapore and Taiwan can withstand comparison with South Korea and Japan, imo. Singapore would be compared more to Hong Kong, however, and it compared well, even when Hong Kong was run by the British. As for Taiwan, people tend to resist making the comparison with Japan and Korea (although it does compare demographically) for political reasons. However I reiterate my assertion that those political reasons are the same problem that holds China back generally.

You're obviously sourgraping on Filipinos because your pinoy ex dumped you. You've got the asian social class in reverse. filipinos are not really fully asians, they have somewhat euro-spanish mixed and culture, so like how many eas feel on this site, they are more unique, different/superiors to full asian s And the Asians that resort to Facial plastic surgery are the most lower class because they are insecure with themselves and how they look - meaning they hate their ethnic faces and the only way they can accept themselves is by changing their ethnic faces or probably cover themselves with branded vanities so that people will perceive them as rich though they have high credit card debt - too much insecurities indeed. And you're clearly bitter against East Asians. Class and plastic surgery have little connection. But, if that's the way you feel, then I guess all those filipinas I've known that bleach their skin are low class, right? Class equates monetary status, little else. And filipinos are Asian.

There are other factors that enter into class such as family history and education. Placing too much emphasis on money alone is wrong.

Also skin color. In Asia, skin color is more important than in the West even. I think it's because people who evolved protection against the higher UV levels closer to the equator have the racial memory of dancing in the summer but not starving in the winter. In the case of Africa, the bottleneck to agriculture appears to be water and fertilizer. However the powers that be are more interested in providing GM seed.
edit: On the other hand, dark skinned people have a greater racial memory of suffering today.

i was in the social loop with a whole bunch of strangers at work and a interesting conversation came up about social status among ethncities. ---for whites upper class northern europeans e.g french, swedish, germans, etc.. lower classs e.g Irish, russians. etc.. ---asians upper class e.g japanese, koreans middle class, e.g chinese lower class, e.g cambodian, viets, Thai etc even lower class, e.g Filipinos, ----blacks upper class e.g south africans blacks, etc lower class e.g Zimbawae etc... what you think about this? Hmmmm, technically speaking, the Irish now have a higher per capita income than the French, Germans and Swedes. So, I doubt that the Irish will be considered belonging to the lower social class. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_Republic_of_IrelandWith regard to Filipinos, I believe it's true that we are looked down upon by other fellow Asians. That's why though I have Asian friends, I get along much better with Latinos actually. I think Filipinos tend to have a closer affinity to Latinos because of the shared Spanish colonization and the Catholic religion anyways. Economically speaking, Filipinos have a higher per capita income than Vietnam and Cambodia, for now.

I think this is because Filipinos are actually Austronesian - not East Asian.

I think the top of the social ranking should be the nomadic warrior priests of Eurasia. To the extent that they ever settled anywhere, it was as rulers. Hence the burial mounds. I like to think that the ninja of Japan are descended from them. However it was so long ago that many people are.
