Japan and Korea are still US bitches while China is independent. Until they get US army bases off their homes, they can never be higher class than China because of colonial residue...even though they might be more technologically advanced, and not have be as polluted and anarchic that China can be.
Same thing goes for Phillipines. They just changed their official language to Spanish, their once colonial overlords language and their leaders and most influential people are of Spaniard or Chinese descent.

I think it varies from country to country, Whilst in South Africa I was considered below the Dutch/Aficaner types due to being Itailian/Greek, I in the UK by mediterian background gains me a higher status, also in Italy I am low on the radar having family from the poor south Sicicly to be exact in the States the Southern Italians rule the roost on the east coast. The same goes for example I remember in Japan Koreans took a real hard time and the Few Chinese I met where far better off. But don't quote me on that as a Gaijin I was always on the outside looking in

Hold on there, both Japan and especially Korea were already China's bitches for many centuries in the past, so neither looks forward to becoming China's bitches, again - which is probably what would eventually happen if they are no longer U.S. bitches. Being a bitch for any superpower isn't desirable, but, given the choice, it's better to be a bitch to a stronger and richer superpower, i.e., the U.S. China is riding high on mostly its cheap labor now, but it is the country with a great potential which will never be higher class than the U.S. or Japan, because of its authoritarian communist regime that holds back innovations and creativities. When did that happen? Because, according to www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/rp.html the official languages of Philippines are Filipino (official; based on Tagalog) and English (official); eight major dialects - Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon or Ilonggo, Bicol, Waray, Pampango, and Pangasinan. But, if it is true, seems like it will be a while before it becomes the official language of the country, since only a small minority of Filipinos can speak it with any proficiency anymore.

Dude, Japan and South Korea are advanced democracies while mainland China is a backwards-ass animal farm. Just because the animals killed or drove off all the people doesn't make them higher-class.

I am surprised you excluded the India's highly elaborate caste system

I actually didn't. The nomadic warrior priests are the ones who are at the top of that too. I'm not at the point where I'm differentiating between Ural-Altaic and Turanic whatevers, but something about the racial myth of sweeping across the plains and worshipping the sky god has a certain appeal to me.

I don't care what CHina's government is. The fact is, they have nuclear arms to the point where the US would never think of invading them. It all depends on your definition of class...if you think being high class is getting a having no economic military burden because you have US bases in your country with red neck GI's going to bars and f***ing your women, then sure, Japan and Korea are high class.

Again what's your definition of high class? I kind of find it demeaning to have a foreign power with military bases on your land. South Korea's democracy is gone in an instant if the US leaves when North Korea 'unifies' the peninsula.

Crushing your enemies, seeing them being driven before you, and hearing the lamentations of their women is simply icing on the cake.

Geopolitical power =/= social power. Today's world is not ruled by the rifle, but rather the power of mind. Welcome to the 19th century, let alone the 21st. Btw, I'd be damn surprised if you actually knew anything in detail about Chinese-Korean or Chinese-Japanese history. You seriously come off like the GW Bush of Asian history

South Korea's democracy is gone in an instant if the US leaves when North Korea 'unifies' the peninsula. It's also equally likely that the North Korean Kim Jong-Il's pseudo-communist dictarorial regime would be gone if China or Russia keeps out and let the two Koreas duke it out. Let's not make South Korea look like a wimpy ass that will be easily pushed over by the North. It, too, has one of the largest militaries www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/nation_view.asp?newsIdx=4547&categoryCode=205 And about the American GI's screwing Korean women: sure it happens, although I haven't come across any reliable official figure, but it unfortunately happens near all military bases in the world - including in China, I'd bet. Also, the picture won't change if another foreign force, say Chinese, were stationed in Korea.

Dude, what have you been smoking and in what world? Tell that to the U.S., China, Russia, Japan and most other countries that are still beefing up their militaries, either by making or buying the best arms that they can get their hands on. Don't be so naive. Today's world, as yesterday's, is ruled by both mind (diplomacy) and rifle (military). Geez, I don't know what sort of world history you learned in your world, but I can tell you that Korea, precisely because of its geopolitical status, has always been invaded from its neighbors throughout its history by various Chinese dynasties, Mongols, Manchus, Japanese and Russians, to name just the big invaders. Read the following and learn about the real Korean history and its ongoing, sensitive, geopolitical status in this world - not yours somewhere over the rainbow: www.brookings.edu/papers/2000/09asia_mansourov.aspx

I don't care what CHina's government is. The fact is, they have nuclear arms to the point where the US would never think of invading them. I certainly hope it doesn't come down to that, but don't be so sure about that, my friend, if push comes to shove, anything can happen. Also, China's nuclear arms power still falls far short of that of the U.S. The U.S. clearly posses more sophisticated and powerful nuclear arsenals than China can even hope to achieve for sometime. You can be assured that the U.S. (or Russia, for that matter) won't wait and do nothing themselves while China tries to develop stronger nuclear arsenals. The presence of the U.S. military at DMZ is just an additional buffer, i.e. insurance, against a possible attack from the North, until more U.S. force arrives, if needed, but the South has always paid for it's military defense shortly after the North-South conflict: www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/rok/budget.htm In fact, as a capable host nation, SK also bears significant costs of stationing the U.S. troops there: english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_international/188686.html

South Korea's democracy is gone in an instant if the US leaves when North Korea 'unifies' the peninsula. On the other hand, that's just a function of geography. To the extent that foreigners have ever invaded Korea, the Koreans either have to either surrender, fight them off, or be pushed into the sea. I notice Koreans tend to be stocky and stubborn. If the political positions and forms of government of the North and South were reversed and China were run by the KMT as well, you would see that the DPRK would certainly be in no position whatsoever to invade the now-democratic North because they simply couldn't maintain supply lines. However it would still make sense to separate the two as the Zhou and Shang were in ancient times.
