My hair is extremely thick and wavy. It poofs out after it dries unles I straighten it and use a ton of hair product which damages my hair. Seriously my hair looks like an afro if I don't do something with it everyday and it can be quite annoying. Going to the salon is very expensive because they charge alot since I have so much hair and it's so thick. The only other thing that helps a bit is growing it out until it's very long then it kind of straightens by itself.

oh if you put a light coat of hairspray before you straighten your hair (when its dry) it wont poof up so much if you straighten your hair while its damp it makes it poofy

If only I inherited the Chinese Hair gene, I'm very touchy about my hair. 80% of my casual outings I wear Hats. My hair is also like Penguins - straight when short but starts to go wavy when longer, and I dont like wavy so I keep it short.

I have curly hair and it's hard to control... so I almost always have a ponytail or a braid when I go out... I have it to the middle of my back now but want it a little bit longer...

I wish I had thick hair I have really fine hair and it sucks!!! I'm thinking about getting a body wave perm again after my hair get's a little bit longer because it really sucks having super straight thin hair it un curls after I just curled it I have to use so much hair spray just to get it to semi hold.

I have really curly hair if I leave it out all day especially and it can become rather frizzy and afro like.. lol That's why I prefer to tie it up and then it looks a little straighter.. I am thinking about getting a straightening perm.. ANyone here had one of those?

Oh yes, I heard a Japanese straighten perm is much better, easier on the hair but cost more and very time consuming. My friend was in the salon for 8 hours!

How long does a ordinary straightening perm take?

I think at least 3-5 hours it depends, a lot of stylist will work on other clients while you sit and bake which sucks because a lot of times you are just sitting there waiting and waiting because they are working on someone else. Depends, I always try to get my stylist when he is the least busy.

EurAsia, howabout using hair straighening creme? My stepmum uses it along with blowdrying and says it helps a lot.
I have straight hair. At my old school people were mostly anglo/europeans and they'd always ask me how I got it "That way". I guess I inherited my mum's hair, but they didn't believe I had any Asian genes.

Hmmm I got my hair straightened 2 years ago. I'm not sure if I had that but mine costed a bomb and took me 4-5 hrs. Apparently it wasn't like the usual perm because those can make your hair look like straw and really fake and mine looked more natural than that. I would ask my hairdresser but she's in Singapore. Maybe my sis will! I think it's definitely worth spending more so that you get a nicer looking perm since it's permanent and lasts a fairly long time. @ Eurasia: Good luck!
