You eat snails as an entrée and chicken adobo with rice as your main meal. We really do get the best of both worlds.

Hello Everyone,
I am a mixture of Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodian, and French...
Needless to say growing up was confusing for me. I grew up in Vietnam and I use to get teased by kids because my eyes look different, I use to have long bangs to cover my eyes..
I get questions like, well you don't look Chinese, or Vietnamese.. well you have western mix in you.. blah blah..
I consider my hair black, but apparently not black enough for Asians... LOL..
I am glad I found this forum, and so many people share many similar situations with me...

I agree to almost every single stamement given... what I can personally add is... - when you get a red nose from the sun while the rest of your body gets quite well tanned (thank you, daddy!) - when people cannot imagine that I am 31 - when you go to East Germany and you don't feel good b/c of all the Nazi stuff there - when people are disappointed that I cannot speak Thai (only some words) - when there are everywhere blondes, brunettes, red haired, some asians, some blacks, some arabs...and you don't fit in one of this category

When I walk along the street and sometimes I see ppl looking at me.. kids staring at me... a 1st few second I thought I had a giant bug on my face. Then I realise I just look different. It affected my life when I was young, I almost gone hermit. Never had this problem in my home country (Europe). But I recently visited an Asian one and got some looks... 'think it's because "they knew" I was a foreigner. 'Thought I could melt easily... Or if everyone expects that you CANT use chopsticks, depends where you are really! Dude. Thanks for that post. Now I understand why some people were impressed that I could use chopsticks. Meanwhile I thought "well, I'm half Asian" ...there are people who you racially identify with, who don't racially identify with you. Yeah. That leads to (sorry for my pessimism): When you feel there's no home for you on this planet.I'll add a nicer touch : When you're the only asian of the group whose face isn't red after drinking alcohol.

.... you get stopped by a random person from another department demanding to know where you're from. You have to explain your ancestry to this strange person "My mother's Filipino and my Dad's American" and get the reply "Aaaahhh, so you're Eurasian! I had trouble figuring out where you're from." Um. I'm actually from Australia

Yeah, I'm always surprised when people know what to call me. But most people just say I'm mixed. I think Eurasians are becoming more noticeable here in Perth because we're growing in number. In the section I work in there were four of us Eurasians among less than 30 staff. We could've held a small convention.

Haha lol xD @kyu-Ree I think there ain't a proper word for people of mixed descent in German. "Mischling" is kind of old fashioned and "Bastard" is perceived as pejorative ... Deutsche Sprache, schwere Sprache ^^

... if you've ever overheard someone make an incredibly racist comment because they didn't realize that you're part Asian.
edit:/ oops! noticed that someone else added this to the list! This is just on my mind because it happened the other day.
