Cats and Dogs are apparently the top two most popular pets. There was a show in Australia called 'Big Questions' that proposed this question. 72% of the people in the studio audience (mostly filled with young girls) chose dogs.
Just curious to see what ppl here think.
Why do you like this pet better? Have you had a pet like this? Have you had both cats and dogs before? Pros and cons of having? Any bad experiences with either?

I prefer dogs. You can do more stuff with them and they protect you. Cats are never around when you want them. They scratch, too!

Oh. Well, personally, I'm afraid to pick them up. They always either scratch or pee on me.

I have a dog. I love dogs, and I haven't been too fond of cats but I still played with them. I wasn't too fond of them because they always seemed to scratch me and when I was playing with my mum's cats in Thailand I went all wheezy and my chest seemed to block up and I couldn't breathe properly. I remember panicking and crying and trying so hard to breathe. I used to have asthma but it was really bad when I was around cats.
I've grown out of Asthma. Haven't had it in many years. I really like my aunt's cat, that is pretty harmless and affectionate.
I still prefer dogs though. I guess some people who have a slight fear of dogs attacking them is probably the same with me and cats (though it's a mild fear)

For me, it depends on the actual dog/cat, just like I get along more with some people than others I have a pet cat and she is the most loving cat, shes almost human xD Well shes not really mine, she came to live with us from our neighbours she gives me hugs too! nawww This is her: wink wink lol

I prefer dogs. I've had dogs all my life and definitely would own one over a cat any day. This is not to say that i don't like cats, my neighbour had one when i was 12 and she used to like us patting her and was pretty harmless although i think she did scratch me once...just once. Dogs on the other hand, i think are more affectionate, and will be defensive over you i think and follow you around sometimes servile but usually be like a friend. I guess cats are kind of selfish whereas dogs are more selfless...cats wouldnt care if you left on vacation where as dogs would...hang on that doesnt sound right. I mean...cats wouldnt care if you didnt like them or not, but dogs yearn for affection.
So dogs for the win.

I prefer dogs too. My family, especially my Mum's family HATE cats. I don't mind them. Mum says, 'Dogs have masters, Cats have servants.' I have a dog, a silky terrier. I love him to bits.

Dogs. my family have only ever owned dogs. no dogs in my house now, but my cousins have 2 cute as dogs! I'm allergic to cats. and they arent as affectionate or responsive as dogs i find. and they scratch! dogs also serve a purpose as safety for the home too. My neighbour has 5.. or rather 9 cats next door.. my balcony that is next to / connected to their house bit stinks so bad. there's one thing about having so many cats, but looks after them and clean them and their cage regularly.. and the freaking meow-ing! and then ac ouple of months back when the cats would sneak into our house and sleeep in the spare room on top of the cupbaord.. only for one of them to sneak into my bedroom and piss on my bed.... discovered a nice wet patch as i climbed into bed........ so mad!!! I miss my Jo-ey, he's in england and so old now..
