I find tripe rather repulsive if not borderline vomit-icious.
Once my dad ordered some at yum cha, my GF was NOT impressed ;D

to most folks taking a "first bite" of vietnamese food, a common one that would come to mind is vietnamese spring rolls. i guess you could say spring rolls is to vietnamese food as sushi is to japanese food. anyways, not that i was ever that crazy about vietnamese spring rolls before, but an event 3 summers ago has left me mentally scarred about them.

It's interesting. I've been in Japan for about a month and I have yet to actually have sushi.
When people hear Japan I suppose they automatically assume 'Oh, okay. You'll be sleeping on the floor, watching Pokemon all the time, running around doing the peace sign and eating sushi 24/7.' Generally speaking I don't think Japanese people really eat all that much sushi. Ramen and udon shops seem infinitely more common. At least where I'm living at the moment.
Teehee - what happened last summer? Did a Vietnamese spring roll jump-attack you?

Teehee - what happened last summer? Did a Vietnamese spring roll jump-attack you? Haha, nah I was able to hold it down . 3 years/summers ago, I had entered into this Miss Vietnamese World pageant, and you'd think by what they had in our tentative itinerary schedule, it would be a fun "once in a lifetime" type of experience. It was a week-long thing, and in the schedule, it actually said that we'd be spending the day out, going to some nice restaurants for our meals, amongst other things making it sound all great etc etc. bulls***. They ended up keeping us confined in the building all day, making us practice for hours on end every day wearing high heels(on a sloped stage at that, and not a flat one) feeding us nothing else but spring rolls. I managed to stomach it the first few times, but ended up starving and not eating for the rest of the time. So one can imagine how worn out i/we were come the actual day of the pageant and how hungry i was by the time my folks picked me up and took me out to eat real decent food. Not surprisingly, it was rigged, all this scandal was revealed, and needless to say, they never had any more pageants in subsequent years. So yea, I associate spring rolls to that time/week, something i don't want to remember.

When I was at school, I and others were served boiled cabbage with our dinner. I cannot understand the need to boil greens?, as any vitamins, etc tend to get lost.
I hate eating boiled cabbage to this day but will eat cabbage that has not been boiled!
Does anyone else have any school dinner horror stories?

The worst thing I have seen people cooking was at my mothers brothers home in a poor region of the philippines. And I was horrified, sheer palpable waves of terror washing over my sanity. On their menu was... Field Mice.
And they showed me the way they prepared them, It was disturbing. Once they get them and kill them, they take all the fur off them and drain the blood out, then they dice them into three sections and take off the arms and legs & head. Then they cook them on a pan and put on sauces.. the really bad part was.. they looked like minature chicken pieces at the end. They offered me some, "NO!@&*%" I did not eat anywhere afterwards except from the hotel, I would not even eat at their local mcdonalds.
