Does anybody ever feel like they want to be apart of third culture? Eversince I can remember, I have always been infactuated with the Japanese culture. I have always dreamed that I would one day get the chance to live there someday after I finish my studies. In high school, I became hooked on watching anime and reading manga. I even started learning Japanese so that I would play through those odd Japanese games. Anybody feel the same way?

Its funny because on the weekend I had a discussion with a friend who is full Chinese and he said that if he could be any other culture it would be Italian because of their cars and confidence.
Although I am mixed with Spanish too - I would love to live in Spain, learn the language, drink Sangria and be fully emersed in their culture. Also it helps that Spanish men are hot!

Recently I've wanted to learn Chinese, but only because Sydney has a prominent Chinatown and I feel left-out whenever I work there. The Chinese seem to have a wonderful sense of family. Very quirky. I always feel like that when I go to china town. I work in Ultimo and I always go down to china town to eat lunch or dinner with my work mates. I always sit there and watch the big groups of asian kids and families hanging out and feel like I'm missing out on 50% of my culture. I'm starting to learn chinese.

Yes, they do. But sometimes it's not reflected in the way they have meals together. Husband - glued to the newspaper so closely I like to think the tip of his nose is blackened Wife - fixated on magazine Child - on gameboy or some other electronic device... or back in my day, my dad would have told me to 'shut up and count your fingers'. Ah when all's said and done, at least they sit down to a meal together. I have no desire to know about Japanese culture beyond what my civic needs to run decently.

In my experience, if you live in Orange County, CA, and you are 1/2 Asian 1/2 White, people assume that you're MEXICAN and start speaking Spanish to you!!!
Has this happened to anybody else???
Do I look Mexican to you???
Ughhh!!!

Ughhh!!! nothing hard to believe about you being mixed asian/white. but had you told me you were latina/mexican, i would've believed you too, as i've seen a number of latina girls with a similar look to you. this has happened to me several times, and alot of folks here have recapped of similar moments as the one you describe. many asian/white mixed people have similar looks with latinos, and vice versa. being mistaken as latina doesn't bother me one bit though. i think latina girls are pretty and latino guys good-looking. as far as wanting to be part of a third culture, i've taken interest in latin american and indian. in the past i've participated at events with latino friends, and i loved it. with indians, i don't personally know anyone who's indian, but something about it intrigues me as well.

There is much to love about Japanese culture and who doesn't love hearing and imidating Japanese? But personally I'm more inclined to Chinese culture (it's a part of me that I've neglected and so it's in my interest to immerse myself around it more).

::)Hi guys, Yes, my boobs are real, although that was totally off topic!!! LOL...When I used to be skinny they were alot smaller, but I gained 30 pounds and they GREW!!!
My boyfriend is Mexican as well, and he always teases me about EVERYBODY else thinking I am Mexican!
I think its something about having slightly exotic/White features in addition to dark hair...
Hmmm...
