Actually mljones7581 that has happend to me. I went to get my car washed and the guy drying the car was trying to explain something to my mom. Unfortunately his English wasn't that good so he came over to me and started speaking spanish. Yes, people STILL do that to me all the time!!! Sad thing is, I took FRENCH in high school. Maybe I should invest in Spanish???

In my experience, if you live in Orange County, CA, and you are 1/2 Asian 1/2 White, people assume that you're MEXICAN and start speaking Spanish to you!!!
Has this happened to anybody else???
Do I look Mexican to you???
Ughhh!!! nothing hard to believe about you being mixed asian/white. but had you told me you were latina/mexican, i would've believed you too, as i've seen a number of latina girls with a similar look to you. this has happened to me several times, and alot of folks here have recapped of similar moments as the one you describe. many asian/white mixed people have similar looks with latinos, and vice versa. being mistaken as latina doesn't bother me one bit though. i think latina girls are pretty and latino guys good-looking. as far as wanting to be part of a third culture, i've taken interest in latin american and indian. in the past i've participated at events with latino friends, and i loved it. with indians, i don't personally know anyone who's indian, but something about it intrigues me as well. Hello! My fiance is Mexican and is always teasing me that his family and friends think I am Hispanic as well... At first, it never bothered me, but it something I get every day...people either think that I'm WHITE or MEXICAN... Now it kind of bothers me because I'm tired of being approached with Spanish...nobody bothers to look deeper and just assumes that I speak the language!!! Maybe I'm just too easily offended!

Ha ha blaze! Having that surname will damn you to an eternity of people thinking youre latino! Not that it's a bad thing. I get it all the time too, amongst other things. I get New Zealander, Mauritian and Spanish the most. The cool thing is, I actually learnt to speak Spanish in uni, so if i go to a latin club, i manage to fool the spanish guys into thinking I'm spanish! Until they realise my vocab isn't that huge........lol

I personally think it's important to appreciate all aspects of your culture(s) to some degree. I however, as I've said before, am not the biggest fan of Chinese food in general. Dimsum once in a while is nice of course. But even though I'd take garlic mashed potatoes with roasted chicken over chow fun any day, I'd still like to eat Chinese food enough that I'd feel as though I'm not drifting to far from an important aspect of one of my cultures--ie its cuisine. is this ridiculous? anyone have similar experiences, even if not necessarily to do with cuisine?

erm not only chest size is off-topic here. Why don#t you start a topic on being mistaken for latino? Kay? Cos many EAs experience that and we don't have to make this thread off-topic. MLJones you can also introduce yourself in the relationships forum (INTRODUDE YOURSELF-thread) "Erm...kay." I never brought up the topic of chest-size...it was brought up by other users--I wrote responses back according to other users' questions and statements.

I love thai and japanese culture. I remember wanting to take up muay thai kick boxing lessons but my over-protective mum threatened to take away certain privileges.

I honestly cannot stand white Americans with Japanese fetish. These people really have problems. Speaking in fragments of Japanese even when they're answering professors' questions is really a sign of retardation in my opinion. There's an anime club at my uni, and as my Eurasian friend puts it, "it was the biggest gathering of virgins I have ever seen."

I was also really interested in Japan for a while in Junior High. Read a lot of stuff on the country, people, history, watched movies, TV, whatever. But I found I started to see all the negative stuff about the country like ethnocentrism, war history, and so on that left me with kind of a disdain for the culture. I mean there are many positive aspects but like with any culture there are drawbacks as well...

I find a lot of Chinese people hard core into Japanese culture. H-core! Yup, same case in Singapore. The locals are infused with the Japanese culture ever since the arrival of Japanese Pop sensations and tv series. With the prominence of anime and manga, the younger generation are more into the Japanese craze. Eva notice all the spiked hair???
