Robby, Robby, Robby...you should know better than to argue wrestling with me. I'm sorry, but you're wrong. ;D
LOL
I'lladmit though I should have been more specific when dealing with someone who actually doesn't know anything about wresting.
WWE World Heavyweight title is not a very old title. Though it bears resemblence to the old NWA and WCW World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is a completely different title.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is also a completely different title compared to it's RAW counterpart the WWE (formerly WWF) Championship that you're referring to.
Bret Hart (Canadian) won the WWF (predecessor of the WWE) Tag Team Title twice. He also had the Intercontinental Title for 5 months and defeated Rick Flair in Saskatchewan for the WWF Title - earning him the elusive "triple crown". After defecting to the WCW, he captured the world title twice - making him 7-time World Champion.
You are counting his reigns as WWF Champion and WCW Champion, these belts ARE NOT, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Chris Jericho (Canadian and your namesake!) - only one of 2 people to have won a Grand Slam (Winning the WWE Championship, European Championship, World Tag Team Championship, and Intercontinental Championship). He also won the Undisputed Championship in 2001 by defeating the Rock and Stone Cold in the same night.
Again, Jericho has never won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Rob! He has been a former WWE (WWF) Champion and a former WCW Champion. You're looking at World Championships in general.
Gene Kinski (Canadian) - obviously pre-dated the WWF/E, but held the NWA title from 1966 - 1969. Same goes for Whipper Billy Watson, also Canadian
NWA Championship, NOT WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The Intercontinental Title is NOT a World Title. It's a second tier belt and is below the WWE Championship and WWE World Heavyweight Championship. It's SmackDown! equivalent is the WWE United States Championship.
Forgive my aside , but other notable canadian wrestlers who fell slightly short of the title, but remain iconic nonetheless:
Rowdy Roddy Piper, Bobby Roode, Christian Cage, Edge, Abdullah the Butcher, Vampiro, Lance Storm, Steve Corino, Killer Kowalslki, Rick Martel, The Rogeaus, The Vachons (Luna, Maddog, The Butcher), Emile Dupre and Scott D' Amore (more promoters than wrestlers), Andrew Martin, Trish Stratus, Tiger Jeet Singh (Born in India, but is another Toronto icon), Iron Mike Sharpe, Waldo Von Erich, Joe.E. Legend as well as many others.
Okay, stop now, you're only proving that you thought you were big and smart, but actually just crashed and burned....badly. Trish Stratus?! The WWE Women's Championship is not recognised as a Heavyweight Title.
Here's a brief History of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for your reference, Rob. Just so you know the next time you try to correct me on my expertise. I wrote it myself, just for you, you should feel honored.
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship was introduced September 2nd, 2002.
The first World Heavyweight Champion was, Triple H, the number one contender to the WWE Undisputed Championship (which was originally the WWF and WCW Championships merged into one belt). However the at the time Undisputed Champion - Brock Lesnar had become a SmackDown! exclusive competitor, and since Triple H was on RAW he couldn't wrestle Lesnar. So without a World Championship on RAW, the General Manager, Eric Bischoff introduced the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt (which bore a striking similarity to the former WCW Belt) and automatically awarded the title to Triple H. The Undisputed Belt came to be simply known as the WWE Championship.
RAW originally was in possession of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However during the 2005 Draft Lottery where susperstars from RAW and SmackDown! are traded, the then WWE Champion, John Cena was drafted to RAW and the WWE Title became exclusive to the RAW Brand. At the close of the draft lottery the then WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Batista, was drafted to SmackDown! and so the two World Titles in the WWE had switched shows.
HISTORY OF THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
1. Triple H
09/02/02 - Milwaukee, WI
The World Heavyweight Championship was brought to RAW by then-General Manager Eric Bischoff after WWE Champion Brock Lesnar became exclusive to SmackDown. Bischoff awarded the title to Triple H who was the number one contender for the WWE Championship at the time.
2.Shawn Michaels
11/17/02
"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels pinned Triple H in a six man Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series. The match also included the likes of Chris Jericho, Booker T, Rob Van Dam and Kane. Michaels went on to hold the title for 28 days.
3. Triple H (2nd Reign)
12/15/2002 - Fort Lauderdale, FL
Triple H defeated Shawn Michaels in a Three-Stages-Of-Hell competition. The first match was a Street Fight, the second a Steel Cage Match and the third was a Ladder Match. Triple H won the Street Fight and Ladder Match, defeating Michaels 2-1.
4. Goldberg
09/21/03 - Hershey. PA
Goldberg had only been with WWE for six months before capturing the World Heavyweight Title from Triple H via pinfall at the Unforgiven PPV event.
5. Triple H (3rd Reign)
12/14/03 - Orlando, FL
Triple H was able to recapture his World Heavyweight Championship from Goldberg in a Triple Threat Match against both reigning Champion Goldberg and Kane.
6. Chris Benoit
03/14/04 - New York, NY
Chris Benoit won the 2004 Royal Rumble Match and moved from SmackDown! to RAW to challenge Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania XX. The match became a Triple Threat Match however and Benoit not only had to face the reigning champion Triple H but also Shawn Michaels. In the end however, Benoit made Triple H submit to the Crippler Crossface and captured his first reign as World Heavyweight Champion.
7. Randy Orton
08/15/04 - Toronto, Ontario.
Randy Orton won a Battle Royal to face Chris Benoit for the World Heavyweight Championship. THe much younger Orton was able to successfully pin the veteran Benoit to become the youngest WWE World Heavyweight Champion in WWE History. His reign lasted 28 days, equal shortest with Shawn Michaels' reign.
8. Triple H (4th Reign)
09/12/04 - Portland, OR
Triple H dismissed Randy Orton from his group, Evolution when Orton won the World Title at Summerslam against Chris Benoit. The two faced at Unforgiven, but Triple H pinned Orton and won the gold for the 4th time.
9. Triple H (5th Reign)
01/09/2005 - San Juan, Puerto Rico
The title was vacated after a controvesial match for the World Heavyweight Title involving Triple H, Chris Benoit and current WWE Champion Edge. Edge submitted at the same time he had pinned Chris Benoit for a three count. Since there was no winner and Triple H was not involved in the decision, the title was vacated and a new Champion would be decided in the third ever Elimination Chamber. Triple H outlasted the likes of Chris Jericho, Edge, Chris Benoit, Batista and Randy Orton. Triple H pinned Orton to win his fifth World Heavyweight Title.
10. Batista
04/03/05 - Los Angeles, CA
Batista won the 2005 Royal Rumble match and boldly declared he was coming for Triple H, his former mentor. Batista captured the gold after pinning Triple H at Wrestlemania 21 and became the longest reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion so far. His reign lasted 282, beating Triple H's record of 280 days. Batista suffered a torn tricep and was unable to fulfill his obligations as World Heavyweight Champion and surrendered the belt to SmackDown! General Manager, Theodore Long.
11. Kurt Angle
01/10/06 - Philadelphia, PA
After Batista had surrendered the World Heavyweight Championship due to injury, a Battle Royal was announced to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion. The winner, however, was a RAW Superstar, and Olympic Gold Medalist, Kurt Angle. Angle is the current World Heavyweight Champion and it is unknown at this time as to whether he will be defending the belt on SmackDown! or RAW.
