I'm currently going through a phase of reading David Mitchell novels. I'm about half way through reading Ghostwritten and Number9Dream. Awesome to see some Murakami fans though. Hard to find anyone I know here that actually know any of his novels. Number9Dream!! I got that novel, too! Isn't he EA ? (or something...) Haven't finished it yet. I'm reading Kafka at the Shore still... but I'm sort of busy I don't think he's EA. I think he just likes to write about Japan in all of his novels.

^ Oooh I am a MASSIVE fan of Haruki Murakami. South of the Border, West of the Sun is one of his less crazy pieces. I haven't read The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, but one of my best friend adores it. I've been recommended Kafka on the Shore too.

What was it about his work that you didn't find engaging? I usually connnect really well with his characters and I like his plot lines. True, some have been pretty slow, but others have been brilliant. Which titles have you looked at? The best: Kafka on the Shore, Sputnik Sweetheart, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. The worst: Wild Sheep Chase, any of his short story anthologies (not all bad, just inconsistent). Tom Robbins rules ^_^, but, regarding Murakami, try Norwegian Wood. It's very different from everything he's ever written. It's still introspective but it's also his most accessible as he doesn't use as much symbolism or magical realism in it. And it's a lovely story. I don't want post the whole plot though because I'd never do it justice.

^The Bum Thief taught me so much it's just mindblowing.
I hear the Kite Runner is pretty good. At the moment soaking up some cosmic luuuuurve from lama surya das. Where would we be without the writers and believers who inspire us?

My parents read them all to me growing up as bedtime stories! My mom sent me a new freshly signed copy of Chuck Palahniuk's "Rant" to me. *beams* Currently that is my reading pleasure.
