^ NOLA is too ghetto and Phoenix is too redneck, so you should consider So. Cal. where there are large concentrations of Asians, including Vietnamese communities.

New Orleans has ghettoes but is not Ghetto it is nice like for example the Garden District. Phoenix is consrvative but not redneck. I don't thinku u know what u r talking about. I lived in New Orleans with my auntie and my dad works in Scottsdale twice a year minimum. Ghetto and redneck I don' think so :S

Phoenix is one of the biggest cities in the country. It's full of all kinds of people. Good urban planning too

Phoenix is one of the biggest cities in the country. It's full of all kinds of people. That's exactly what I thought prior to moving out here, and later realized how wrong I was. Well actually, it is one of the biggest cities in the country but what you'd define as "all kinds of people" is subjective. If you're latino/spanish-speaking or white, then sure this would be a great place for you. But if you're a Vietnamese EA female looking to forward your career using your multilingual skills(in English, ASL, Vietnamese, and French), then you're out of luck. I've read so many opportunities for bilingual speakers, but by "bilingual", they actually mean Spanish/English. Even though I have multiple languages under my belt, Spanish isn't one of them, so around here, professionally, I have no more of an edge over your next monolingual person, except for maybe in ASL, but again, I'm still not a licensed professional in that yet. All this in addition to the racism/objectification I've experienced in the relatively short time I've been living here and the lack of that community, it just wouldn't be in my best interests to settle down here.

OK, I agree with you on that somewhat. I live in San Antonio. They're almost identical cities. Not much of any Thai or Viet (and not a big Asian pop in general, outside of East Indians) community here, but I haven't explored wanting to learn a second language, etc., so it's not much of a bother. For the most part though, they're fairly diverse cities. I don't think they're redneck-ish. Anyways, as far as I know, Houston, NOLA (which you don't want to move back to), Cali, and NY are your best bets probably. I'm surprised that you've experienced racism. From your pic, you could pass as Caucasian. As much as I can, if not moreso. And I don't get much racist b.s.

Anyways, as far as I know, Houston, NOLA (which you don't want to move back to), Cali, and NY are your best bets probably. I've been to San Antonio before, and from what I'd seen there, I agree that they're very similar as far as demographics go, and diverse depending on what other cities you're comparing them to. Even though Phoenix may be diverse in some ways, it's not the ideal city for someone like me and I can't see myself achieving my full potential if I were to settle down here. Call me an opportunist if you will. SoCal was one of the areas I was thinking of. I'm still doing my research though, so depending on how everything falls into place. I've seen all ends of the spectrum when it comes to people guessing my ethnicity/percentages. Some see me as more Euro, not seeing much Asian in me, some the other way around. In Phoenix, I'm generally seen as either full Asian or they can't tell what ethnicity I am. It's ironic you say that, since I'm more than half Asian. My EA mom, even though she looks mixed too, also experiences more racism here than when we were back in NOLA. I'll elaborate on that some other time though, I almost feel like I'm hijacking this thread off-topic as it is . At this point, what people guess of my ethnicity is nowhere near the top of my priority list; I'd like to focus on the more important things

Fair enough. More than half Asian eh? I guess the light curly hair in that pic in your profile threw me off.

Parents don't care as long as I'm happy. They've never pushed anyone of any race upon me. I find amongst my Asian friends, their parents will push them to date other Asians of the same race as them. My Vietnamese friend for example, his mother got pissed when she found out he was dating a Malaysian girl. Same thing for another friend who is Chinese and had a Korean boyfriend. Something about being with her own kind or something. Some Asians can be pretty racist, especially against Black people. Maybe Asian girls date White guys to piss off other Asians. I know I would if I had that kind of pressure put on me.

Mongols don't care what race you are, but who you are as an individual. To us, there's only two races, human beings, or human trash.
