^ That happens to me quite often too. Mexican and Vietnamese girls like to come up to me and ask me if I was Mexican, or Vietnamese. When I told them no, they'd just quickly walk away leaving me standing there wondering what did I say wrong lol. It used to bother me when I was a teenager, but not so much anymore. If they only want to be friends with Mexicans or Vietnamese, then their circle will never be expanded and they can never learn something culturally new.
I try not to let this identity thing get to me. As I said, I used to have identity issues, but not anymore. I am just myself. I like hanging out with fun people, not people of a certain color or culture.

Next time, for the hell of it, say 'Yes' and see what happens. ;D Over here the question is even shorter with Aussie slang, "Hey mate, what nash are you?" Can be annoying, particularly since not many people know where Burma is. I get pretty lazy sometimes, I'll either make up something else or say I'm half thai just to avoid the subject.

They seem to have superiority complexes around here. As for Mexicans, I seem to get along with almost all of them. Even when they find out I'm not, they are cool with it...but that's from my experiences.

Well said Jaded lady. My experience is different than yours in some ways, similar in others, but i'm impressed by the amount of self-awareness you've got, and your ability to think rationally about your reactions to other people's inquisitiveness. Thank you, I really never thought that anyone could read anything out of my posts. I choose the worst times to post. Self-awareness and an awareness of others are really the only things things that keep me afloat when it comes to things like this. I'm all too aware that intentions don't always come across the way they are intended. People have to interact with each another on this basis (and not just about identity either). If I can do it better the next time, I will - there's no onus on myself being the only one who should change - but if I don't check up my behaviour things aren't going to get better by themselves.

^ If I did that, I'd have an identity crisis for being able to get away with it. ;_; why cuz u happen to look asian enough to play dumb? don't have an identity crisis over it use it to your advantage ... and then when u do hand in ur assignment they'll be uber amazed as they expect s*** grammar and spelling mistakes everywhere that just adds up to better marks

To the depression part of this thread about Identity issues, I think If you dwell on it and look at it as a negative aspect, your looking for depression then.
