I don't know if this post is dead or if the author still reads it, but I only bothered reading his first post...
The following is my personal and humble opinion: Singaporean may be your ethnicity (look up the word in the dictionary for better clarification, it has to due with your cultural and racial ties) and does not necessarily mean you are from Singapore. People ask you where you are from because it is a politically incorrect way to ask "... What are you?"
If you do not have a foreign accent, have lived there your whole life, and show no other signs of coming from a foreign land, it is in their ignorance (or less harshly, simply being uninformed on the manner) that they would assume you are not from Australia.
That aside, the fact you reply with "Singapore" simply reinforces their misinformation/mistake/ignorance, whatever degree it is. It's not their fault they continue to assume everyone who looks significantly different is not from Australia if people who are from Australia yet look different claim otherwise.
Also, how do you think a real person from Singapore would feel of you claiming you are from Singapore?
I truly hope you take this into consideration!
Sorry if I sounded harsh, but I confront the same question as you all of the time. Thought I'd throw in my two cents.
