^if you can't get a girl to talk on a date then you've really got problems awww.....dammit, are you sure Emily? Well, maybe that explains why the lines from Top Gun worked so well on Kelly McGillis but never on the girls i've approached. I guess that means I'll have to bin the aviators too

^ I don't know...were you saying you find it difficult to get women talking in a non-date or date setting? Date setting. One of the reasons I detest dating. Like trying to get blood from a stone. Hmm, I don't know what kind of women you're dating if they won't speak up. I mean, if they already agreed to a date, I can't see why they wouldn't talk...

Do you meet those women at the morgue, by any chance?

I think things are a bit strained in the date setting. I was told by male friends that sometimes women ask entirely left-field questions and sometimes break into partially inappropriate ones too regarding income, and other status. - inappropriate for the first date or two. Women seem to be more on guard than anything. There's also that cultural subtext that they have to play 'hard to get'. Besides, most like that game.
Women and morgue.. I used to work in a hospital and the new ones are a bit off. I met a woman who treated it like part of her goth alternative lifestyle, and the way she treated bodies was like a flippant byproduct of this whole idea of working in a morgue that she was infatuated with. The older ones are more tempered. I guess they've seen it all.

I was told by male friends that sometimes women ask entirely left-field questions and sometimes break into partially inappropriate ones too regarding income, and other status. - inappropriate for the first date or two. How old are these women? I'm in my late 20s now & i'm finding I have to be pretty careful when dating women in the same age bracket (not all, but an alarming proportion . They have this thing about "i've gotta get a man asap n settle down so i can have kids before 35". So sometimes it can feel like you're on a job interview n not a date. It's actually my female friends that first pointed it out to me, and they are doing exactly the same while criticizing other women!

You mean to say women normally converse on a date? I thought it was just an unwritten rule for them not to give more than "Yes", "No" or "I don't know" as answers So it's fair to say that you only go out with shy chicks, yes?

So tell me: why weren't they talking to you? You were doing all the talking?

If I knew why, it probably wouldn't have happened. I ended having to do most of the talking, or else nobody would have. I might as well have gone by myself. It probably would have been more fun. In fact, it is ;D So what do you mean they weren't shy? Were they sitting in your lap?

My background in psych means that i've got a little more than a passing interest in getting people to talk, interpersonal communication etc. I'm intrigued. Next time, do us a favour, video tape your date and distribute it on the internet. Then we here will all chip in with some pointers

I've given up on dating. It's been 3.5 years now Not true. Your last date was with me in August. Did that mean nothing to you? I even bought you lunch EDIT: and he didn't even put out.

SYJ, I wasn't watching.
Fumanchu, Yeah. Those women they (guy friends) were dating were late twenties to late thirties. I've heard that many times too - pressure gauge with marriage and family. Priorities change. Men start to tuck in their shirts too. For the most part.
