But you'd think that you'd have more dark mexicans in TV but you don't. Haha If you look closely they usually put the dark mexicans in the background and you can find some on the talk shows on stage and in the audience.Mexico is to blame for all those dumb shows though. The Filos I met consider themselves Asian but feel comfortable around Latinos. I've heard a good number say they feel a "connection." I've met South Americans who've visited the Philippines and state it reminded them of their own country. Don't care what they are but I think more whiteness brings more acceptance so I believe if they had more white heritage they'd be more accepted. It's not important to me what they're labelled. I just find the "possible" reasoning behind the given or not given label upsetting. In my circle of Latino acquaintances there is always the should the Philippines, Ec. Guinea, Brazil, and Spain and sometimes even Belize should be considered Latinos? It'll never be solved but it's there. Belize has a large native Spanish/bilingual speaking population plus the illegal immigrants from neighboring Spanish-speaking nations. They have their own illegal immigrants. Luz Maria, Betty la Fea, Alguna vez tendremos alas. Yeah they are cheesy but I like some. Not latinos IMO, but Brasilians have nice novelas and diversity. I see love affairs btwn blacks/whites, asians/mestizos, whatever mixes. Of course the Euro look dominates but it's pretty diverse. Salma often employs her Eurocentric phenotyped Latino or Spanish friends eg Mia Maestro, Penelope Cruz, Ruben Blades, Mark Anthony, Edward James Olmos, Alfred Molina (my fave). America Ferrera is the least Eurocentric I've seen her hire and even then America looks of Euro ancestry. Salma produces latino-themed films but I don't see Zoe Saldana, Alfonso Ribiero, or Q'orianka Kilcher types. Salma's pretty much dated white guys. She's preggers but not married yet. The Frenchman is super wealthy that he makes her look inner-city poor. Michelle Yoeh's found herself a tycoon too. Some women have all the luck. That word latino is too broad so i dont know.Brazil, latino? im not sure about that one.Spain? Definitely not in alot of peoples eyes. They dont wanna be associated with latinos from what i know. There was a documentary on racism and discrimination against black and dark-skinned brazilians in brazil especially in the media but i cant remember the name of it.And People wanna see stereotypes so they wont let black latinos like Zoe Saldana & Alfonso Ribiero play latin roles because itll just confuse people i guess. Ive heard people call spanish-speaking fillipinos "Chillipinos" I dont know if they find that offensive but i thought it was kinda funny when i heard it =|. But if you want diversity, this woman name Nora who is japanese and so is her whole band "ORQUESTA DE LA LUZ" sing salsa and is more respected in latin america than j-lo or salma i feel and shes been around since i was young. youtube.com/watch?v=dvF5amY3Wc4

So, what did you NOT fully understand? No need to shout. I didn't get the seeds and pop them out things. Did she mean that mexican guys are f***ing a lot and mexican women agree to get pregnant every time ?

Her comments show that she was brought up to be ashamed and doesnt consider herself half either.Sources say, she is legally an oompa loompa This process of « ashamization » has been initiated by a minority in reaction of the majority's threat. But anyway whether one considers this as good or bad, it's not Longoria's responsibility ; she's not a 1st generation immigrant. She didn't make those identity choices and therefore it seems pretty normal and justified that she doesn't feel latino.

On Friday evenings and Saturdays while driving and making constant stops at crosswalks, I realize how many Jews live in my city. Are you Jewish? I don't like Jewish food unless it's presented by a Russian (blintzes, perogies, stuffed cabbage). I eat a lot of Russian food so one time a Puerto Rican New Yorker thought I was Jewish. ;D Don't understand why American Jews don't cook as well as Eastern Europeans. Isn't the food similar Where do you live? New York? Well there are almost as many Jews there as in Israel so no wonder. California not too many but a decent number. Am I jewish? Half Jewish. I don't follow the religion...then again I don't follow any religion. I believe in myself Jewish food has its roots all over Europe. So there really isn't such a thing as Jewish food. Of course you have a few here and there, with kosher preparation, but it's nothing like say Chinese food, or viet food, or whatever regional food. It's okay, nothing special. Ive never met a jewish person before. I heard there are very very few in Bergen, they mostly live in oslo where there is a synagoge. Asians have white looking people to (eurasianish), but asians are still asian. I think some of the mexican people can be mixed with european blood, causing some of the to look more whiteish. Most Mexicans are pretty damn dark though. I live in California, which is probably 30% mexican by census, but more like 50-60% if you count illegals, and the region I live in, and most are dark, and you can clearly tell they are Mexican. The ones that are more light skinned tend to intermarry with whites it seems. But you'd think that you'd have more dark mexicans in TV but you don't. Oh well, I like Shakira A girl in my class thought I was mexican, hehe. And I find myself quite pale at times.

No need to shout. I didn't get the seeds and pop them out things. Did she mean that mexican guys are f**king a lot and mexican women agree to get pregnant every time ? Funny we're typing but we still express anger, frustration, etc. ;D Some people just want (many) kids. Some girls just dream of marrying young and "popping" kids. I live around a lot of Mexicans. There are different stories. Some want the kids, the guys refuse condoms because their poor "thing" can't feel pleasure , some are overly "religious" Catholics and think contraception and/or abortion is wrong. Personally, and oh I sense backlash, the stereotype is true, many Mexicans have large families but we shouldn't make it sound like a "bad" thing. Remember in the past most of our grandparents generation and back were popping out babies too. I would love to have married at 20 and be on my 4th kid by now but today's society makes that seem like such a BAD thing. If you have the money, I don't think it's bad. My mother (english-norwegian) has 9 kids...More kids than the average african family. When I tell people its better to have kids before 30, and that I wish that I can have my first kid before 30, they start arguing and saying that its better AFTER 30.... That one is more mature etc, and more stabile economically at this age. But I dont think its natural for women to start having kids at this age really.

^ You Scandinavians - always popping out little vikings like seeds. And the men just lay around all day drinking tankards of mead and singing about Valhalla or else they are racing around in their low-to-the-ground dragon boats, revving their oars. There goes the neighborhood

There goes the neighborhood Nah. The average childbirth for women is 1-2 kids per woman. Some doctors are worried about women having so few kids, and always chosing the education first. But I feel that I see women with babies or pregnant women constantly!

Ok so it seems that's what Alba meant, by « popping out ». The way she said that was quite harsh indeed...

Did she mean that mexican guys are f**king a lot and mexican women agree to get pregnant every time ? i wasn't shouting, dear. i put single words in caps for emphasis. from now on, i'll simply whisper to you. is this considered whispering? lol.

So Alba says, "...I'm American. Throughout my whole life, I've never felt connected to one particular race or heritage, nor did I feel accepted by any." Except for being Canadian, I share the exact same sentiments towards my various ethnic heritages. I was born and raised entirely in Canada, and my parents never felt the need to teach me anything about their cultures. And as such I've only ever had what I deem to be a typical North American upbringing. Im kinda curious.Have you ever taken it upon yourself to learn about your various ethnicities on your own though or do you have no desire to??

Meh, so she's whitewashed, plenty of people are. She shouldn't pretend to feel a connection to one half of her culture just because people expect her to. And if she doesn't want to attempt to grow closer to her latin roots, then fine. But if that's the way it's going to be then that means she's forfeiting the right to say off-color things about hispanic people. The way that she's saying she doesn't identify as a latina that she feels "American" makes it very clear that she thinks of of the words "American" and "white" as having the same meaning. I don't really care if she says she doesn't identify with any particular race, she's clearly confusing "American" and "white." So if she's identifying as being an American (white girl) then she loses the right to even jokingly disparage her latina roots. It's one thing to joke about your background if you have pride in it. If you are openly denouncing any connection to your background then you need leave it at that. She should have just left it at her "I don't feel latina" comments and never went into the babypopping, seed-spreading comments. On a side note, I still think she's cute.
