Probably because she's hot. In a generic way, albeit, but hot nonetheless. If she was a cow no one would give a s***.

Mark Consuelos is of Mexican and Italian ancestry. I saw him on the Tony Danza Show and he said that his Mexican father and his Italian mother met while students studying in Spain. Mark was born in Spain, and shortly thereafter his family moved to Italy, where Mark grew up. He didn't say how old he was when he moved to the US.

The way that she's saying she doesn't identify as a latina that she feels "American" makes it very clear that she thinks of of the words "American" and "white" as having the same meaning. _____________________________________
I disagree. She's talking about culture, but her detractors are talking about race. In one of her quotes on the first page of this thread, she says that as a child she always felt self conscious about her dark skin, "but now it's mainstream and color isn't as big a deal. If anything it's better."
She knows she's not white. American doesn't equal "white." And to say otherwise is a slap in the face to all the Hispanic-Americans who have fought in every US military conflict since the US Revolution. Americans come from all races and backgrounds.
It's ridiculous to expect her to identify with the culture of a foreign country after being here for three generations. It's seems as though Mexicans are the only people expected to do this. Jessica's comments about "spreading their seeds" was tacky, but I don't think there is anything wrong with calling herself an American.

I dont know this person. But this gives me a strong impression of her being a shallow bimbo. End of story.

Did Jessica even make these comments? Perez Hilton started these rumors and he didn't provide any sources. I looked the issue of Para Todos magazine with her on the cover, where she supposedly said these things, and I didn't see anything in there.

You guys should save your pity... People still turning their noses up at people who aren't as in touch or interested in their own culture as they are with their own?
Jessica Alba seems to have a sense of self-awareness - aware that she is unfamiliar with her latina roots and is honest with herself about it - so no need to persecute her for that.
P.S. I get sick of all of these Filipino people I meet who take pity on me for not knowing more about my culture.

Uh, why is this news?
Most new generations of Americans end up considering themselves Americans. Who cares if their parents were from someplace else. They left that place in favor of this one for a reason.

I wouldn't blame her Mexicans have a lack of confidence in themselves. Maybe she pick up a symbol like Prince. Hopefully this country can one day stand on it's own. Everytime I see a Mexican I say to myself "I'm Sorry." But hey I like Mexican women and now since I grew a bushy beard they are giving me a lot of attention.

^ Mexican women like beards? Why do you say Mexicans lack confidence? Why do you feel sorry for Mexicans? When you said Prince you meant the singer? He's half-black, no Mexican I believe. just curious...

I will just pray for her and the Mexican people. That's all they need. Well Prince I can't do anything for him. God just wouldn't listen about the so called "Prince of Darkness!"... ;D

Although I'm one of those people who's trying to "get back in touch with his roots," I agree with exhale85 on this. Being labeled "Latino/Latina" ought to mean more than some racial classification (in the warped American sense). More importantly, it means a real cultural affiliation, and if that culture was not a part of her upbringing, and if she chooses to have no interest in it, then so be it. She's not the property of the Mexican/Latino world. She's just an American. As for her specific comments, I don't know what to think of the credibility of the reporting, nor do I care very much TBH.
